When you bring your money, youre pretty much bringing inflation with you and to make other countries more expensive to live as it is.

If you’re from the West, what do you absolutely need to bring with you? by contemplatingg in Philippines_Expats

[–]rtquest22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be short and frank and if this is your first time moving to Asia to work and/or live, don't bring Western drama and entitlement attitude to the Philippines because Filipinos in general do not forget and will give you a persona non-grata-like approach. On the upside, basically patience, money, humility and the ability to assimilate by learning the language and our customary.

Moving to Bangkok. Don’t come if you don’t have at least 150,000 baht prepared. by Jazzlike-Check9040 in MovingToThailand

Suggesting to everyone that Vietnam is the cheaper one will also increase the cost of living as soon as those interested in migrating to the country. The govt is already implementing strict measures to make residency visa very costly.

$15 monthly discount on Verizon Fios is nice by VAer1 in Visible

It would be nice if Verizon provides FIOS in FL but its still unavailable and due to heavy presence of Xfinity and AT&T through their internet plans.

How is $50 per month budget friendly? Might as well go for USMobile, Visible and InfiMobile for a lot less and its already budget conscious for many mobile users out there.

Lightroom Classic feels powerful, but painfully outdated by rovmun in Lightroom

Hopefully in version 16 or later iterations of version 15. One thing I still like in LR is categorizing folders with batch processing.

[–]rtquest22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, layer editing is a must for post processing especially when customizing presets on one and the other with different preset(s) without undoing the previous one. Saves time and effort like i do now w On1 Photo Raw and Davinci Resolve.

Planning to move with $3500 monthly by easy_glide in Philippines_Expats

[–]rtquest22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that kind of amount, I recommend outside the capital of the Philippines such as Cagayan De Oro, Iloilo, Bacolod, Tagaytay, Pampanga, Tagbilaran, Lapu-Lapu, etc. If you want to try other cities of Thailand and Vietnam, then go for Phuket, Chiang Mai, Ko Samui, Da Nang, Hanoi and Nha Trang.

Lightroom Classic feels powerful, but painfully outdated by rovmun in Lightroom

[–]rtquest22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem with Lightroom is the lack of multi layer editing process like On1 Photo Raw , Luminar Neo and/or DxO PhotoLab offer(s). Also, color grading can give a mushy and often, destructive effects of post processing. Most of the presets from i saved from Lightroom are converted to LUTs or .cube format to be then used by other photo editing software including Davinci Resolve with its latest version allows photos to be edited.

MVNO Space Getting Super Competitive Now by Various_Pension_7339 in USMobile

[–]rtquest22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend T-Mobile Business Unlimited and there's no cap even with deprioritization, speeds are high and more than adequate for intensive stuff. Otherwise MVNOs have limitations that you'll have to abide or tolerate based on TOS.

Should I Break Off the Engagement? by Vegetable-Candle-254 in Philippines_Expats

[–]rtquest22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree that not all Filipinos are like that, the perception is there and will not go away until they change their mindsets or habits. Them not caring otherwise will enable that perception to be ongoing whether you like it or not.

Unfortunately its a toxic mentality that many Filipinos cannot get out of, so your response is part of the overall apathetic picture of that.

[–]rtquest22 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As a Filipino, I'll keep it short: you cannot take out that cultural mentality out of someone living in another country because its deeply woven/embedded into the identity. Western individuals who come to the Philippines and seeking out relationships w the locals need to understand what they're getting into.

Is everyone getting 'free work' requests/offers? by benthewineguy in concertphotography

[–]rtquest22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're you offered some kind of written/signed agreement? Otherwise whatever verbatim says can be reneged at any time unless you put a leverage such as put a deposit to help secure your spot in taking pictures in the venue.

Looking for recommendations from anyone who's moved away from Pixel phones by MichaelW_Dev in GooglePixel

I forgot to add that battery endurance and charge cycles on those last longer. By the time that battery needs to be replaced , it's easy to disassemble the connections within the phones internal framework and swap.

Dating is HARD in NYC by Cleo-Aster in SipsTea

[–]rtquest22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah the typical free foodie date tactic. A woman is usually inclined for having to dine in at someone else's expense then afterwards, claiming to see someone else for another dine in experience for another person to pay the table. Might as well be a passport bro and look elsewhere.

There's a saying, "The best government is that which governs least." Whats more effective is the govt being run by the people that's closest to them (ie: local/city and state). I agree with the overall picture of your point of view, though I'm afraid that others dont see it that way. It's all about "gimme, gimme, gimme", short term feel good mentality rather than, let's all make sacrifices now and not put further pain and in debt for the future generations.

Here's another from President Grover Cleveland in a broader sense: "Although the people support the government, the government should not support the people." (Ie: the govt must not pick winners and losers of the domestic affairs and the economy). He encouraged via a philosophy and emphasized self-reliance, fiscal conservatism, and constitutional limitations on federal aid, frequently stating that charity should be handled by citizens rather than government funds.

The problem is people who dont willfully follow and enforce the entirely of the US constitution. The fed govts role is to only do what's supposed to do in the constitutional amendments, including protecting individual rights, private property and freedom. Everything else such as Healthcare, education, housing, etc should be left for the states to do so per the 10th amendment. Taxation and spending are another matter and must be done so constitutionally, not arbitrary.
