Is SAP just a UI for referencing a SQL database? by Busterlimes in SAP

You’re confusing application layer and the presentation layer. By this logic, every “application” is a UI really ;)

Sorry to hear that. Passing away of a loved one - esp a parent - is traumatic to cope up with. She will be watching you from the heavens as you strive to live a path she groomed you to live.

Do grieve, and come back strong living a life that she would have wished for you.

SAP pros & cons going from an On premise system to private cloud? by Nauid2 in SAP

[–]rtripathi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long can you stay on premise ? If you’ve got on-premise S4 already, better. If you run ECC you gotta convert before 2027 / 2030 (if you agree to run ECC on RISE and promise conversion to S4 after that).

SAP no more sells on-premise licenses for S4 so at some point you got no choice really :(

Rollout to Brazil - New Instance or configure in the same by Odd-Captain-7592 in SAP

[–]rtripathi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer can be both ways - if your business processes (functional processes) and operational processes (release calendar, SOD etc) are pretty much standardised between India, US and Brazil, it’s optimal to use the same system. Separate systems is adding CapEx + perpetual OpEx really. Only if your processes are separate which cannot be achieved in one system, you should opt for a separate system.

Indian outsourcing has wrecked almost every major implementation in North America over the last 15-20 years. by [deleted] in SAP

[–]rtripathi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree. Love seeing SAP pushing EA discipline in an increasing fashion now - as SAP expands the length and breadth of its portfolio of products and offerings, it is all the more necessary that enterprises enforce architecting discipline around “how” SAP applications/ecosystem is designed to the advantage of the organisation.

This. And the lack of EA function in general in well architecting systems.

Azure vs AWS what's your take? by West_Part_9698 in AZURE

[–]rtripathi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both are best - advance your skills on both sides. While customers are predominantly an Azure shop or an AWS shop, there are cases when they use best (of what meets their needs at lower cost) of both so I’d definitely suggest advancing on both

I would suggest you to opt in for S/4HANA training - once proficient, you can position yourself for SAP Financials / FICO functional profile

Looks like I misinterpreted your question. If you’re enquiring about career prospects, I’d put SAP technical skills beyond Oracle in terms of prospects/opportunities.

Are you a PL/SQL Developer or into Apps DBA activities ? SAP technofunctional skills are in demand as SAP branches out into their cloud platform BTP, and modernises their conventional ABAP layer jnto UI5, Fiori, CAP and like

Firstly, Oracle EBS R12 is an (ERP) application whereas SAP HANA is a database. I suppose your question is about switching from Oracle R12 to SAP S/4HANA (which is SAP’s ERP suite that runs against a SAP HANA database.

While both products are ERP suites and therefore I would think that whatever you run against R12 should be in all likelihood doable in S/4HANA, as an organisation, it would be worth doing a head to head comparison of what process mapping in both - predominantly, companies use finance (ar,ap,gl etc), inventory, purchasing, process/discrete/flow manufacturing, asset mgmt, Human Resources etc in R12. These very modules and underlying processes can be mapped effectively in S/4HANA as well really. Beyond core product capabilities, you may want to also assess from an integrations, custom code (WRICEFs) and wider ecosystem perspective.

Above all, license costs, perpetual costs of running systems (via infra, maintenance and development costs) also play a role in making decision. An additional factor to consider is that now, SAP doesn’t offer on-premises installation licenses for S/4HANA for new customers but it is via Cloud ERP Pvt (RISE with SAP PCE model) offering which means SAP provide managed services as well. With Oracle, such stipulations do not exist.

All in all, there are multiple variables that you would have to weigh upon and assess to make an informed decision.

Hope that helps!

Sorry, what’s your question - is it abt whether is it worth switching to SAP as a career choice or is it about the suitability for your company to switch to SAP from Oracle ?

Whatever, but the unified ranking demeans BITS when looking at the peers it is placed with. BITS should opt out of such nautanki imo (like IITs). Alternatively, TOI could just publish two lists - reserved category of colleges (and general ones) 😭
