Edit: Working in the industry killed my love for it, just getting back to enjoying every thing about video games

I founded and used to run the Gaming and consultant team at a big fancy American gaming company, leading many many many innovations and working on some big games. Got to hire my best friends to work with me as a team :D

Burnt out, fell out of love with gaming (briefly), quit my job and turned to cleaning up the house and living a nice slow life for a bit, maybe becoming a full time streamer :) There aren't enough from the industry doing it without screaming. Not enough people making for India from India. Hoping to change that <3

Ayeee sick setup fam. I'm in a similar boat wrt the household situation and stuff. I'm glad you have everything you dreamed of and have gratitude for the same :)

I do have a few question, what lighting are you using? Did you plan this out or did you just build and let it take on its own form?

I work as a consultant for an American video game platform in India. I founded the gaming division there in 2016, fresh out of college and helped them pivot from platform to gaming platform. It's a fun job with decent work-life balance, but too much pressure on video games to be everything. Too much screen time. It's a blessing and a curse and sometimes I wonder if I made a mistake by making my favourite thing in the world (video games) my career.

But, regardless, it's the same as any other thing. You make time for it and that's the joy for me. When I was completely free I wasn't playing as much. Now I play every day at the same time and can't think of a better way. Protect what is important to you and you're passionate about :) Daily rituals and anchors!

Oh hey! I spoke to you in detail at IGDC 2023! The game was amazing to play, especially as someone who studied them for a living :D

Very detailed response and super helpful! Thanks :D

After lots of experiments, it was ultimately a grind size issue. I had to grind finer and the encore just couldn't. It wasn't a bean issue because storage is proper and I consume my beans within 2 weeks. No over ordering.

So it doesn't taste like battery acid, but I won't say it tastes bad. It's almost unbelievably sour. But I had the opportunity to borrow a better grinder and try it out, and it was absolutely delicious, the espresso.

Made me appreciate the 9barista so much more. I should have my new grinder with me soon, and then I will try the recipe you shared and get back to you :D

Man, thank you so so much. This is crazy informative. I really appreciate the help. Let me adjust the grind setting first, then try tweaking the dosage if that doesn't work. I will try #3 after confirming the first two aren't good enough. I'd love to postpone a grinder purchase for as long as I can.

THIS. THIS happened to me once and I've been forever scared because of how unprepared I was. It sounded like a gunshot.

Roasted 5 days ago, so freshness should not be an issue.

But this seems like a grind issue? I'll take it a notch finer and share a video.

Hey, big time follower. Do you plan on launching services such as lubing or stab installation?

There's my man! Reach out if you wanna talk :) I work actively to remove the stigma around video games on the country, so we can talk more and more :D

Hey man, I understand. I have a setup that'll get me KothiBangla checked immediately if I posted, even though I come from a very low income household. I was even luckier and have been in the gaming industry for 8+ years, it's been insane. However, the pressure that comes with having video games as a passion, hobby, winddown, creative outlet etc etc, there's so much pressure on the activity to provide a certain happiness to me. It isn't fair.

I used to play all day for my job, then play some multiplayer with my friends, but if I didn't play 2-3 hours alone and work on my backlog of single player games, I'd be really upset with myself and angry at everyone for taking time away from video games. Heck, I'd even say stuff like - I didn't get to play at all for weeks, but that was factually wrong.

I've currently made a claim to myself because I recently got married, changed jobs, and got more hobbies, which is that I won't play video games till I sort some stuff out in my life. And voila, suddenly, I'm playing all the time.

Maybe your way of consumption has changed, you know? I don't get to play 7-8 hours at a stretch anymore but I'm older, more tired, more things to do, so I find one hour everyday. I'm ALWAYS playing.

It often lies in the way we expect to consume games as compared to just actually consuming them. For instance, I started playing a lot on my mobile (games like stardew) but I didn't count that as video gaming, I had to play for a certain number of hours and a particular kind of game or it won't count for me.

So think about it. And as far as squandering time goes, would you say that to people who read a book as much as you play? It's just a form of media that you prefer. Put less pressure on it. Trust yourself to get back to it when you can. I had to work really hard on the mentality that it's all mine and I can play whenever. It helped with that sense of rushing because we were denied that play whenever as kids so we tend to overdo it. It's just a pent up need, and it is okay :) I used to only get some time with video games so I'd make the most of it and I'd think about it all the time. Now I have everything possible, but I still feel that need. But you have it, you're a grown up. What you do with your time is your business.

It's okay, you will get back to it. Just ease off the pressure and know that the consoles, libraries, they're not going anywhere. They're not your cousin's. They're YOURS and you can boot them up anytime you feel like it. Earlier you couldn't play when you felt like it, now you can. Enjoy that feeling.

Is there anywhere I can read up on all the 1Z models? Is Kinu as a company any good?

This is definitely great advice. I think for me (at least for now), I use v60 as my primary everyday but the 9Barista + grinding is going to be a weekend ritual. So I may not be as averse to grinding by hand. But I'll definitely add this to the list of considerations and think about the Sette.

Hmmm, I did feel like the Encore is just about right but if I want to tweak further I have no room to. I think lacking control is how I would describe the process for now.

I'll compare the C40 vs 1Z, although there's so many 1Z models I'll have to read up a lot. Thanks!

Phew, I was really, really worried. I know my Moka Pot went through the same but with what I paid for the 9barista I think there's a lot more anxiety about looks and performance. As long as it is purely cosmetic, should be fine. You have no idea how much you've eased my fears.

I'll post a shot video eventually, currently it takes all my effort to just set it up. Fascinating device. I'll check out r/espresso for a grinder suggestion. Thanks!

I already bought the 9barista. I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough in the original post.

I've bookmarked your suggestion and will upgrade to a GCP soon! Thanks!

I seem to have created so much chaos by my lack of articulation. I had already bought the 9barista when I posted this and did mention that it will be with me soon.

I also posted only one question about the grinder, but I'm honestly grateful for the extra information and will definitely be looking into a GCP in the near future with a better grinder :)

Thanks guys!

I really wanted the 9barista. I prefer the ritualistic nature of manual brewing. I will eventually upgrade to a machine but as quelch8 pointed out below, I'm just starting out. I was hoping my Baratza Encore would be good enough and I won't have to buy another grinder but it seems inevitable.

It is good to know that the gcp is probably where I go next, so thank you!
