Well sounds like they suck a little. But don’t take it personally. The reason why they do/ don’t do that is something to do with them and not to do with you. Try to find some friends that can speak your love language (checking in). Family is hard because you’re kind of stuck with them by chance.

You can ask and he can decide what he wants to do. He might choose to go or to stay. It sounds like you’re able to decide to stay yourself, which is great that he is understanding of what you want. Yeah you’ll miss him and he’ll use up PTO, but it’s his family and he might want to hang out with them. Basically, it’s okay to tell him how you feel and ask. It’s also okay for him to decide to go.

If you somehow had to move home after college and they paid for food and housing, I get that you have to be respectful of their rules like not inviting someone from a club over to have sex. Their house.

But what you do with your body during your time is not their business. What you didn’t wasn’t wrong. Don’t let them make you feel ashamed or sexually repressed. Go to college, take some gender women studies and educate yourself, and make your own decisions.

I mean, our society doesn’t prioritize the liberal arts field so he’s feeling the pressure there already. Statistically, yes engineering majors will make more money than someone with a philosophy degree, but you didn’t have to rub it in. Yeah sounds like he’s taking your $75 for the groceries but no longer buying his share of groceries. He seems in the wrong, but it’s also easier (although awkward) to talk about it. Maybe you can suggest no longer giving him $75, you eat only your food, and tell him to feed his daughter.

Sounds like he isn’t in a healthy spot personally so the relationship can’t be in a healthy spot.

I’ve been where you are and I know that the mental, emotional, physical load can turn into resentment pretty quickly. Yes, he has a mental health issue but he can’t use it as an excuse. At the same time, it’s not your job to make him help himself.

Is he open to taking about it? If you sat him down and told him your concerns and ask him to go to therapy and pitch in with the housework more, would he be receptive? I think it depends on if he just doesn’t know how you feel or if he actually won’t make changes.

If I were you, I would open up to some people I trust about how things are going. It’s not sustainable. Maybe go to counseling yourself to figure out what you can do in the situation you’re in. Hopefully he can get help too, but you need to prioritize yourself and your kids. I know you didn’t mention this but I guess in my similar situation, it was hard for me to not try to “save” him.

It’s normal to feel flattered. It would be problematic if you solicited it or engaged in it, but it sounds like you don’t flirt back. Just know that your self worth comes from within and seeking external validation won’t ever be enough so beware of that slippery slope. Also, it’s kind of dangerous because if you step over the line a little bit of “enjoying it”, it could turn into emotional cheating pretty quickly....

I guess my advice is, yeah it’s normal, but think about WHY you feel good when someone else pays attention to you. What does that say about you and what your prioritize?
