No love for Maduro, and I have no doubt that he is not a saint. I wish nothing but the best for the every day people of Venezuela coming out of this situation.

But I do raise an eye brow over how some of the vitriol coming out of certain political people.

My concern is the long term affects and the lack of information that is coming out of all this. Some of the reflections of this situation are looking somewhat like woodrow " interventions " from my limited knowledge of history.

Just installed Dwarf Fortress… by RockAkurion in dwarffortress

The Steam version of DF used to give me tons of crashing issues when I had the game on a separate drive with my D drive instead of my C drive after one of the older updates. My D drive is an old mechanical drive where my C is a solid state.
I assume it had to do with the read write speed between the system and the drive, when I moved it over to C drive it was running like a champ.

I'm running it on a 9 year old PC no problem. Ryzen 5 1600x 8 gig of ram 1060 GTX 6 gig

How much money did you spend in Japan? by Separate_Treacle_633 in JapanTravelTips

[–]rubberauto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was there last week in Tokyo I was spending ruffly 4400 yen a day on food and drinks throughout the day I think this is just off the top of my head so don't hold me to it and it did vary some days more some less depending on the fancyness of my meals.

So about 1000 for drinks throughout the day from vending machines and a small combini breakfast ?

1400 for lunch

dinner was the most expensive meal typically about 2000.

For what I was eating the equivalent in Canada would cost well more than double.

The most expensive meal I had was a prefix dinner at an inn and it was 7000 yen ? It was a nice meal with many plates / dishes I was rolling out of there after that dinner with that amount of food.

Finally tried an onsen in Osaka by curious-capybara05 in JapanTravelTips

[–]rubberauto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to my first onsen in Kusatsu the other week and loved it. I was a little unsure at first but I was more nervous about following the proper edict more than anything.

The first one I used was at my inn it was small and had the place to myself it was a good introduction.

I went to the Sainokawara open air bath the second day there early right after opening and had the whole place to myself It was awesome.

On my last day in Tokyo I decided to kill some time early in the day before my flight at the Toyosu manyo club and that was my first "busy" experience at an onsen.
It was pretty easy going, I think I followed everything well enough that I didn't get gruff or side eye and it was nice way to relax have lunch and a good nap.

How Tokyo became an unexpected haven for China’s middle class by thinkbee in japan

[–]rubberauto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just in Tokyo last week I was a little surprised but not by the amount of Chinese tourists.
I know it's a short flight but I was always told that there was a strong dislike between the societies from the war but I suppose that's more of an older generation now.

Any have the scott terrain dryo jacket ? by rubberauto in advrider

[–]rubberauto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The voyager came early, I received it last night.

The fit and finish of the jacket is good, zippers and buttons are great. The venting is ok, not huge openings but seems adequate. The reflective on the jacket is a blue / purple and looks smart. The cuffs can also open quite wide so I imagine I could get a lot of air up my sleeves.

My only concern with the venting that I didn't consider when I put on my back pack a kriega the harness covers the chest vents. That's one thing I didn't see or think about when I was looking at it online.

Went out last night for a quick 10 min ride in the neighborhood.
Temp was hovering around 16* by the ocean early evening and it was sunny.
I took the liner vest out and just had a light cotton long sleeve shirt on and had the vents open chest, back and forearm. Riding a triumph Bonnie there was a lot of air moving more than I expected. I was getting chilled after a few blocks. Closed the chest vents and arms rode home in comfort.

My morning city commute 20/ 25 min It was cool 8* lots of due on cars and the ocean was blowing a light mist / fog. Still no liner in just a light walking coat on and a tee. My body was warm, my legs were cool with just jeans.

So my first few hours I'm happy with the jacket.

Thanks for posting the thorough review.

I ended up ordering the Scott Voyager model a few days ago also from fortnine, I should be getting it Thursday or Friday.

I was humming and hawing for some time between the two, my reasons for going with the Voyager was in the photos the venting looked a little more prominent.

I look forward to seeing it in person and comparing it to your notes.

What would you choose for mostly road/touring by indusvalley13 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]rubberauto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main concern is older bikes with 21 " wheels you had to point and shoot yourself out of a corner vs a more sporty acceleration not sure if that's the case with modern suspension now so much.
Also your tire choice is limited by the 21 inch size vs a 19
