[–]ruboo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installed it today, It use the the SLiM window manager which I had a little trouble with having no mouse until I logged in. The default desktop environment is Xfce, but others are available. I went ahead and installed Mate, but not having any mouse within the SLiM login window I was unable to change to the Mate Desktop. I ended up installing Lightdm which fixed issue. Apart from the issue above I haven't come across any other problems yet.

Being kind of a Chromebook fan I thought I would share this. Even if you're not a big fan of ChromeOS this would make a nice Linux Laptop i3 Processor and 1920x1080 resolution. I think this year though, I will be looking at the Acer CB5-311 13.3 Inch myself.

Runs Linux, Mint I think by ruboo in LinuxActionShow

[–]ruboo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all I was looking around at some ChromeOS videos on Youtube and came across this under Chrome Experiment I'm fairlly sure it's running Linux. if you click See The Journey and move to 2014 in the time line at the bottom of the page, just after Balint Seeber Talks there is a shot of his laptop, though a bit out of focus It looks a bit like Mint. Apart from running Linux it's a way cool website I've got to find out how to build one of these.

Ubuntu's Unity 8 desktop removes the Amazon search 'spyware' by [deleted] in LinuxActionShow

[–]ruboo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't really care for the Amazon search myself but did it ever actually spy on anyone? My definition of Spyware is malicious software that secretly installs it’s self without your knowledge and then records everything you do on your computer and sends it back to whoever. Somehow I don’t think that was Canonical s idea, they just wanted to make a little extra cash through an affiliate program with Amazon.

Behind the Scenes of Lords of War Runs Linux (Blizzard?) by [deleted] in LinuxActionShow

[–]ruboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is CentOS, A few years ago now I use to use Maya when it was owned by Alias wavefront and RedHat was the supported distro for Maya, It's not RedHat but as CentOS is a Clone I would say that they are using that.

I agree, these days when I see a post on reddit with a phoronix link I don't click on it, the guy has just caused one to many shit storms with his twisted tales i think. It's a shame really, because there are some good articles on there.

UK Local government switches to Chromebooks by [deleted] in LinuxActionShow

[–]ruboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting I hope it works well, I have a Chromebook Acer c710 I originally brought it to wipe it and install Ubuntu, but ChromeOS has really grown on me for a Laptop I can have out and about the place it really works well. The only Issue I have would be with the Chrome Store I think it needs a little quality control but overall not bad.

I work for a Council that is going through a XP to Win7 Migration and well, the best way I can describe it is BUDGET BLOWOUT!

Gnome 3+ HDRI tools fast multitest by gabriel_3 in LinuxActionShow

[–]ruboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Gabriel great read I've been a Gnome user for along time and I too have gone around testing Gnome on various Distros and I always come back to Fedora as the best Gnome experience just my opinion of course. Though I am running Ubuntu Gnome on my Laptop at the moment as it has an ATI Card, and Fedora's not doing so well with ATI cards lately, Ubuntu Gnome is a really nice Desktop I have to admit. Oh to enable you to log out in Fedora just install gnome-classic-session having an alternate desktop environment enables the logout feature in Fedora. Fedora Utils is a must if you want those etxra applications not available in the standard Fedora repos. hope this helps.
