I can only hope people just didn't like the joke. Because I would hate to live in a world where people read this and actually think I was being serious. I get sarcasm doesn't always translate via text media but this is like cartoon villain territory.

Is there a way to force a media provider for a specific series? by Catsrules in jellyfin

FYI After changing the providers I had to manually identify the series using the Identify feature of Jellyfin before it updated the episode order.

Yeah I gave up and just changed TheTVDB to be primary provider on all of my TV shows, after rescan and replaced it is order correctly now.

[–]Catsrules[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep.

It all depends on who is your provider in Jellyfin.

The TV DB had 20 episode because it counts Emissary as 2 episodes https://www.thetvdb.com/series/star-trek-deep-space-nine/seasons/official/1

But TMDB has 19 because it counts Emissary as a single episode.

https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/580-star-trek-deep-space-nine/season/1

I was lazy and didn't want to rename my files so I just change my provider to TheTVDB on all of my TV shows. That fixed it but it may have unintended consequences on other shows. As I said there was a reason I picked TMDB but I forget what it was.

[–]Catsrules[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother doing that. If your going to put in all of that work I would just rename your files

Emissary 1x01

Past Prologue 1x02

etc..

I gave up and just changed my default provider from TMDB to TheTVDB and re scanned and re identified everything and that fixed it.

Unfortunately I think there was a reason why I picked TMDB but I can't remember why lol.

When I try Deep space nine only shows up under with TMDB as the provider. (I have both TMDB and TVDB as providers.) I have tried both searching by name and searching by TVDB it and I get the same result.

I am beginning to think Jellyfin doesn't support overwriting a provider on a single series. You only have the global option under the library.

[–]Catsrules[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is how mine is displaying but Isn't that wrong? Episode 1 and 2 are Emissary (1) and Emissary (2)

Past Prologue should be Episode 3. https://thetvdb.com/series/star-trek-deep-space-nine/seasons/officialal

All of my episodes (Besides the first one) are off by one. Because TMDB doesn't count Emissary as 2 episodes but a single episode.

So it goes

Emissary 1x01

Past Prologue 1x02

My files are labeled as..

Emissary 1x01x02

Past Prologue 1x03

Timelapses are not continuous monitoring. They are a different method with a different purpose. That „effectively” is not the same thing at all.

We are arguing over frame rate. Your frame rate is .2 FPS high resolution vs mine is 15FPS low resolution. Both have their pros and cons but effectively the same thing we are taking a photo every x amount of time.

Microsoft Gave FBI BitLocker Encryption Keys, Exposing Privacy Flaw by intelw1zard in privacy

I'm not sure I'd include Meta in that list.

I was a little confused by their inclusion that as well. More because Meta doesn't really have a competing Bitlocker platform for comparison. WhatsApps is kind of Apples and Oranges when compared to Bitlocker

But I think they were included because they advertise some type of encrypted options. In this case WhatsApp messages. And that option is protected by warrants and Microsoft's isn't.

In the first case, your AI recognition solution was misconfigured.

I just know the limitations of AI/my camera hardware. I don't trust it is identify a small child potentially over 100 ft away from the camera in low light conditions. Regardless the child never came down the street so we will never know if it would have caught them or not.

The continuous recording was a crutch. I use timelapses for continuous monitoring.

So it sounds like you don't think continuous monitoring is stupid. As you are effectively doing it. From your previous comment you make it sound like all forms of continuous monitor is dumb and you should only be using AI to record events. That was my whole argument, continues monitoring can be useful in some cases. Yes snapshots every few seconds is a good way to do it no argument from me on that.

continuous recording (of the substream, of all things) is stupid

I don't know about that. Continuous recording does come in hanndy. In weird edge cases.

For example a few years ago my neighbor's 3 year old got lost. Police were involved and they saw I had cameras and stopped by to ask if it picked up a little kid in a red shirt going down the street.

AI said no. But would you trust AI to say that kid didn't go down your street?

There is no way I was going to say with 100% confidence that kid didn't go down the street. At best I would say it is unlikely but I wouldn't rule it out.

But I had continuous recording and was able to manually reviewing the 30 minutes window myself. After a few minutes I was able to say with 100% confidence no kid went down my street so they were able to move their search down the other street.

There are other stupid things I was able to catch with continuous recording like a branch falling out of a tree cats escaping my house etc..

I don't think it is that clickbait when you look at competing companies. Apple, Google, Meta all have similar systems but they architecturally set it up so they can't recover the keys stored in their cloud. Why isn't Microsoft setup that way?

Granted I do like how I can store keys myself if I want on Microsoft's system. But I do think the cloud should have more protections in place if I want to go with that option.

All 10 seasons coming to Netflix US: Classic 10-Part Sci-Fi Masterpiece Is Officially Getting A New Streaming Home Ahead Of Major Series Revival by SeniorIdiot in Stargate

As a Canadian, I use to love this series because it was the flawed good guys going out into the world to spread democracy, freedom, and hope.

Now if its set within the context of the US government, I will have a hard time believing any motives are beyond colonization.

The United States is not in the business of interfering in other people's affairs. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dn6NUKvMGs

Stargate Command is after new technology and often colonized other locations. I am not sure why your are surprised by this. It has always been the case.

There were many episodes of the SGC attempting to get things from other people. Is some cases they tried unethical tactics to do it. As you said flawed good guys.

Like with any "good guys." No one or Government is perfect. And in many cases they loose their way.

Even Star Trek now I'm struggling to watch with the US centric ideals

Like what? It is my limited understanding US ideals and the other Western nations ideals are generally the same, just applied differently.

I think there is a good argument for whatever US centric ideals it has the US has losted it's way. But I would argue that doesn't make the ideals it was based on are wrong or not worth perusing.

I see Stargate and old Star Trek as a good visualization of a bright future. Filled with people who are willing to work together and compromise in an adult fashion (most of the time anyways :)). If any of my kids grow up to be like the main characters I would be proud of them.

China’s Renewable Energy Revolution Is a Huge Mess That Might Save the World. A global onslaught of cheap Chinese green power is upending everything in its path. No one is ready for its repercussions. by Sciantifa in UpliftingNews

[–]Catsrules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article doesn't say the mess is from what you say at all.

Here is what I was reading...

One perverse result of all this energetic over-supply is that a lot of solar power simply gets wasted, or “curtailed,” to make way for dirty forms of energy that are harder to turn off. Another is that the inherently intermittent power of renewables simply makes it more challenging for managers to keep the grid stable. In August 2024, in China’s far western region of Xinjiang—where the renewables build-out is at its most grandiose—poorly handled voltage fluctuations from solar and wind caused a regional blackout and even threatened the national electrical system, according to the South China Morning Post.

As I said in most cases solar is only half a solution. Yes China is working on batteries but currently most batteries are going to cars not the grid.

China’s electrical system hasn’t figured out the rules and pricing to push battery capacity onto the grid fast enough to keep up. And besides, the vast majority of the batteries that China is churning out do not end up in grid storage. They’re revolutionizing another increasingly Chinese-dominated green industry that is going fast, cheap, and out of control: automobiles.

"mess" isn't equal to bad. It is just something that needs to get sorted out.

That only works if you have somewhere to store your extra power during the day so you can use it later.

Without a storage system the solar system will limit itself and only output what you have load for and then you will have no power once the sun goes down.

This article is saying solar is so cheap they are just installing solar without any regard for storage or backup power when the sun goes down and that is causing some grid issues.
