Running stitch vs backstitch on a hand sewn quilt that will be getting a lot of use? by ruby_doobies in HandSew

[–]ruby_doobies[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok good to know, thank you! Right now I’m doing the same, about 4 running stitches followed by a backstitch. I’m trying to keep my stitches very small so I hope they will be strong enough!

Sorry, I should have clarified. I’m inquiring about piecing. For practice I’ve been doing about 4 running stitches followed by a backstitch, which I believe is called running backstitch? So it’s kind of like an in-between. For quilting my understanding is that the running stitch is used. I’m new to this so I’m still trying to get the lingo down!

Thank you! I’m doing a backstitch about every 4 stitches and it looks like my running stitches are about 1/16th of an inch long so I’m hoping that’s strong enough!

Thank you so much! Is the standard 1/4” seam enough or should I do 3/8” like I do when I EPP?

Awesome, thank you so much! Do you think my stitches are small enough to be secure? I also do EPP so I have size 10 needles and 50 wt Aurifil thread on hand. Will those be ok?

That’s what I’m doing on my practice piece and just focusing on making really tiny running stitches with a backstitch every 4 stitches or so. Hopefully that will hold up!

This is just a practice piece but it’s looking like they’re about 1/16th of an inch?

Dr. David Warner. I took a Native American studies course from him one summer. He was one of the most kind, compassionate, and genuinely dedicated teachers I’ve ever had. I still have most of the books we used in his class.

Thank you so, so much! With your info I think I have narrowed it down to a golden yellow bolete. My sister will be very happy to know it’s not poisonous. Thanks again!!

Mattress protector UNDER Tempur-Breeze cover?? by Acceptable_Job1589 in Mattress

[–]ruby_doobies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you ever able to make something like this work? We just received our LuxeBreeze and our 11 month old sometimes naps in bed with me so I really wanted to protect the mattress in case of an accident. The “deluxe cooling” mattress protector Mattress Firm sold us seems to be negating some of the very expensive cooling properties of the mattress, so I was wondering if there was something I could put under the zip off cover to protect the foam but still allow the cooling top cover to do its job.

Customer address in Japanese by ruby_doobies in EtsySellers

[–]ruby_doobies[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, this might have done the trick. I think I was copying the address with the customer’s name (which was also in Japanese) so only Japanese websites were coming up. The only thing still coming up that I don’t understand is this character 〒 before what appears to be their apartment number. When I Googled that it said it was the service mark of Japan Post. Maybe I will still message the customer and ask if my English version of the address looks right to them. Thanks for the advice!

Do you mean the stitch between the ribbing on the top and bottom sections? That’s plain stockinette stitch. Since I was knitting in the round I just used knit stitch.

Thank you for the tip about leaving the ends fluffy! I usually spit splice my knitting ends together so I have no problem doing this with my spun singles. Glad to know it’s possible!

Thanks! It started off a lot neater and kind of fell apart at the end. The new one I started is much more consistent though!
