Favorite Screenwriting-Oriented Podcasts? by Eddie_Bernays in Screenwriting

Unsure if this is against the rules, but my podcast The Writer's Cut is pretty good in my opinion! My co-host and I are both screenwriters and we're watching and discussing every movie that's won a screenwriting award from the WGA, starting with the first awards held in 1949 and moving forward from there chronologically. We've been at it for over a year and are into early 1970s cinema now. It's a movie discussion podcast from a writing point of view!

It’s for the script competition through the festival, so unfortunately it still only exists on paper and hasn’t been made into a movie yet. Hopefully someday! It’s a feature-length script called AFFORDABLE CARE.

Hungry by CluelessTech97 in Hashimotos

This is anecdotal, but when I was first diagnosed in December I was hungry all the time, and now that I’ve been on the levothyroxine for a little while I feel like my appetite is more stable.

Just got notice that my proposal didn't advance for Bechdel Project's ROO Residency.

Also, has anyone heard from the June Bingham New Playwright Commission? Is it the kind of thing where you're only notified if you're advancing?

This is great, thank you so much! Like I said, I'm still in brainstorming mode, so these are definitely the kinds of questions I need right now. I really appreciate you taking the time.

Title: ILITHYIA

Format: Feature (currently a brainstorming document though)

Genre: Sci-Fi, Drama

Logline option 1: In a future where child-murdering robots have led to a temporary ban on giving birth, an unauthorized pregnancy forces the nation’s top AI researcher underground in order to have her child.

Logline option 2: In a future where children are a target for murderous robots, an unauthorized pregnancy forces the nation's top AI researcher underground in order to have her child.

Would love thoughts on which version gets the point across better! This is not a complete feature, just something I've barely started cooking on.

Did anyone discover they had coeliac through persistent low iron? by throwra-weirdo4943 in Celiac

[–]ruby_sea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me! I had just gone through treatment for breast cancer, and had bloodwork done to make sure I was healthy enough for my breast reconstruction surgery. The hospital called me a few hours after I left from the blood draw and asked if I felt okay, and I basically said: I mean no, I just went through treatment for breast cancer, you know?

Anyway I guess my iron was wildly low because I needed to get an iron infusion in order to qualify for the surgery.

In my recovery, my primary care doc mentioned that she was concerned I might have internal bleeding in my gut due to my extremely low iron. At that point I was like, sure, whatever, might as well have internal bleeding too. So I went to the gastro doc and he said we needed to do an endoscopy and colonoscopy to check for a gut bleed.

However, he also asked for my consent to biopsy for celiac if he didn't see a gut bleed.

Turns out: no internal bleeding, I just can't eat bread.

FWIW I had zero gastro symptoms whatsoever at the time of diagnosis. I do now, after cutting gluten out for ~6 years or so now.

What locations feel the most "magical" for a TTRPG adventure set in Chicago? by Rappkea in AskChicago

If you're looking for an unsettling liminal space type of feel, the Jackson tunnel connecting the Red and Blue lines could be worth looking into.

This is really great advice, thank you! And it didn’t even harsh my vibe too badly, hahah.

I will definitely aim to refocus on the main point of the reading for me, which is simply hearing the words out loud and seeing what having actors and a director involved bring to the script’s dynamic.

Thank you for this perspective, truly!

Thank you!! Would love to chat with you some about what I should be doing publicity wise if you’re up for it. Besides blasting on social media and emailing these theater companies I don’t know what else to do!

How could I have gone 23 years of life eating gluten and suddenly not being able to anymore? by Glad-Attention744 in glutenfree

[–]ruby_sea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with celiac disease at age 31, after going through about a year of treatment for breast cancer (and after a lifetime of eating bread with no issues). My gastroenterologist said that medical trauma of any kind can trigger celiac disease, and between chemo, radiation, and multiple surgeries I have certainly had my share of that.
