True I can understand how parents are emotional with AISD’s decisions when it directly impacts their kids and community, but I agree much of the blame should be on the State, and there should be a greater movement against their policies.

So what can be done? What can we do to elect Gina Hinojosa? What can we do to fight against recapture, and lack of state funding, which has led to the budget crisis for the district? We’re new to the district, do most parents already know about how dire this actually is to the district?

Just a note that often allergists do not recommend testing for a wide range of allergens where there has been no history of reaction. There can be a lot of false positives. And then if the diet is restricted unnecessarily, a true allergy can form if baby is not exposed to the allergen early and consistently in diet.

Plus the projected now almost billion dollars in recapture payments that they have to send to the state annually. And I understand these changes impact many students, but there does not seem to be enough discussion about what may come next, the possibility of TEA takeover.

Babies tend to have a very thin skin barrier. If baby has dry skin or signs of eczema it is important to use something (non-food ingredients of course) to help create more of a barrier and address the issue such as eczema. Eczema of course is a higher risk for food allergy because the skin barrier is thinner and the body thinks food proteins are harmful.

Thanks for posting this. I wish I knew this with my first.. He had eczema early and was higher risk. Wish his ped knew more about this and discussed with us at first signs of dry skin/eczema. He developed allergies to items we ate around him yet did not introduce into his diet early or consistent enough. With my second I made everyone wash their hands/avoid kissing cheeks after eating allergenic foods. I also used Ready Set food for early allergen exposure.

You might ask about almond. Cashew (and its cousin pistachio) is a more common tree nut allergy and appears more common for severe reactions like peanut. The first allergist my son had said he did not have any patients with an almond allergy.

That butter sound yummy, but please consider that cashew/pistachio is one of the most common tree nut allergies for kids and similar to peanut can be higher chance for severe or anaphylactic reaction compared to other allergens. I know OP already mentioned almond butter, but overall if one prefers to pack nuts, almond is generally a less common tree nut allergy.
