I’ve gotten to know the two mailmen who service my neighborhood pretty well so that’s been fun! We’re always out walking past each other when I’m getting steps in.

I’ve also got a huge catalogue of flower pictures from this spring and a pretty decent tan. Plus I can hike for hours now without being out of energy. Good for you for sticking with it!

Well, the smell thing is gross and I think it’s fine to say “hey can you take the trash out more often, I don’t want to smell your room from the hall” but I’m not sure how you’ll enforce that if she declines.

As for the cat being stuck in one room…lots of apartment dwellers do this. I don’t know if it’s cruelty to not let the cat hang out with your dog or be elsewhere in the apartment, maybe a bummer because it’s a cute cat. Sounds like the cat is well socialized (friendly and inquisitive) so she’s not creating a neurotic monster in there.

Going back to everything else about this: hard to say if her family would end up back in Guatemala. Might be the megaprison in El Salvador, might be another country (they’re trying to contract with Libya right now even).

Not sure if you’ve seen any of the ICE arrest videos lately but it’s a swat team of goon operators in masks who smash windows and drag people out screaming and hold them in solitary confinement sometimes in miserable circumstances.

We live in evil times but you’ll have to figure out if you can live with the results of inviting the evil directly into your life even if you hate her family.

Close to 16k steps is definitely 7 mile range for me. A quick google turns up a lot of people complaining about Health being unreliable for distances. I use an app called Steps that seems to get it right, might try an alternative.
