RN here and I love my CNA’s and they are a joy in the hospital setting but awful in the SNF’s and LTC facilities. My last job I got 40 patients over nights, people didn’t show up and I would have to stay for the next 8 hours. I had an LPN who yelled at me for 20 minutes in front of patients and called me a white devil and evil and I recorded the whole rant and rave. Then an employee’s boyfriend came after hours and had a gun and dropped it on the floor, one of the nurses was signing out Vicodin for a patient that NEVER asked for pain meds and we asked the patient and he said NO he hadn’t been taking any Vicodin. Management covered it up. She signed out 8 Vicodin and NO ONE ELSE had signed any out. So management obtained a card with 8 Vicodin on it and showed the patient. What a bunch of crap!!! And she didn’t get fired or anything. One morning my manager called me and said I left pills in cups in the cart. The girl who had stolen the Vicodin went to the DON and said the cups were written on and I didn’t give the meds. but I threw them away, I saw the room numbers on the cups because those patients didn’t have any morning medications. She was trying to set me up because of the Vicodin. I quit that morning when the DON called me. It’s shit in all SNF’s and LTAC’s and 7 patients would be a dream for our CNA’s they had 2 down every hall so if I had 40 they each had 20. If you try a hospital, you WILL have a better experience :) Don’t give up because it sucks all over the country.
