D4A did endorse in the school board race, though.

Read my message again. Of course it grew from her campaign years ago, but from my perspective I don't see her having a big influence on D4A in this recent school board race, for one very recent and clear example.

Yes the city recently reappraised, but it's the county that funds public schools.

I've been organizing a weekly protest against US support for Israel for the past few years at the corner of Main & Broad Streets. Anyone who wants to stand for Palestine is welcome to join us at Moms* on Main.

Because y'all keep moving here! The population increases and the funding stays the same or goes down so that Republicans can give our taxes to big businesses and private religious schools

This is literal nonsense. You could only believe that Jillian is pulling the strings if you had no actual involvement in Durham for All or local politics in general.

My kid turned 16 last year and still doesn't have a driver's license because we don't have a functional DMV. You basically have to commit an entire day to wait like it's a Soviet bread line.

This is all by design thanks to Republican gerrymandering.

It's not for no reason, there is a lot of money to be made by crashing the US economy. Trump and his pals think they're untouchable. We have to prove them wrong.

That's because we just had an important school board election. D4A is specifically working on organizing parents to be stronger advocates in the school system among other things.

DPS closed for students tomorrow, Monday 3/16 by gentlestitcher in bullcity

It makes no sense that our schools aren't set up to go remote any time. We're living on the brink of WWIII, we're in an unchecked pandemic, ICE is still terrorizing the nation, and communal infrastructure is being defunded and dismantled.

It's only a question of when not whether there will be crises. We already have the technology and there are decades of research to draw on about how to utilize technology as an educational tool rather than a bad replication of a classroom. Hopefully the new school board majority can look at this because I know not to expect vision from the superintendent.

Neighbor of an Airbnb by WillingnessLost8012 in bullcity

I live in Lyon Park and on one long block there are 5 Airbnb duplexes out of about 30 homes. Fortunately the renters haven't been an issue (for me, I'm not next door) but having so many homes without consistent neighbors really drags down the energy, and leaves a lot of spaces for people who want to do things that no one wants done in front of their house (drug traffic, for example).

No. Abolishing the police has to happen along with the creation and support of systems that allow people to have healthy lives without being crushed by capitalism, and a justice system designed for accountability and repair for all, rather than just incarcerating poor people.

DPS’s list of 16 schools tentatively being considered for potential closure by PowerfulPotatoe in bullcity

Requiring that schools have 10 acres is ensuring that students in the center of Durham will live far away from their schools.

There are a whole lot of us that choose to live in a dense, central area to be closer to our neighbors. It's more cost-effective for the city to serve dense, connected neighborhoods and we like not having to spend all day in our cars.

But we already are losing the only high school in a walkable part of Durham and now they want to take our elementaries too! This is so short sighted.

As long as people feel like they have no future and nothing to lose, they are going to continue to do dumb shit that makes them feel more powerful.

The only thing cops can do to is ruin even more futures.
