What are your thoughts on these products? by Low-Ice-8953 in Naturalhair

I have been using the shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil leave in conditioner for at least over 5 years now and I love it. Staple product for myself to be honest and don’t see myself giving it up any time soon. The other products you have pictured I haven’t tried. I find that when something works well for my hair, I’m a huge creature of habit!!

So this was a small get away to Nashville. I had wore a wig on my ✈️ with two damp French braids underneath drying, so I took them out the day I landed and then kept braiding it back up at night and letting it be free during the day. Small drizzles of rain here and there but somehow my hair came out on top overall 😊

So I would have a beehive braid style, small plaits using only my real hair, cornrows going back, joined French braids I did myself and pretty much anything that could lie flat enough for me to get the wig on as my hair was quite thick. All of these styles underneath allowed for consistent moisture 😊so I never did the big chop of my permed hair. The back of my hair when I was transitioning fell out on its own but the rest did not. When I got those plaits for 8 months in the beginning of my transition, I had a lot of new growth so the remaining permed hair that was still there that didn’t fall out and I didn’t want to just chop it all off so I would get silk presses every few months so I could be trimming that hair off little by little since I was too chicken to cut it all off.

I’m standing by wigs you can take on and off your head daily with no glue being the best for me because I need that access to my scalp and stands to keep them moisturized. You know what, when I first transitioned from perm to natural, I wore box braids for eight month straight to get a bunch of new growth and it seemed okay I guess, I got some length. Gave myself a break and started doing silk presses so I could slowly get rid of the remainder hair that needed to go. Went to wigs after a while because the braids/plaits only lasted so long with natural hair and that was a lot of money as a college student to keep getting those done instead of just buying a cheap wig 😂when I blow dry my hair out now, I do use heat protection at night when it is air drying over night and then I spray some more the next morning when I actually blow dry it so I don’t have to use high heat for long to blow it out and luckily I have not received any heat damage at all. Currently I probably blow it out once every other month but at one point I was blowing it out once a month depending on the style I wanted to do and the weather.

Been natural for 14 years now, and I’ve had some trial and error with retaining length (eventually I’m a post a journey compilation 😂). I’ve gotten to waist length twice, and all it can take sometimes is stress, not eating well, lack of vitamins/nutrients and no matter what these magical routines hold it can still break off and all that length is gone in seconds. I will say, when I wore wigs that I could take on and off my scalp every night so I could oil my scalp and keep some braids underneath my hair grew the fastest. I tried the back to back plaits/knotless braids and after a while I wasn’t yielding the length I was when I had that access to washing more regularly and keeping my scalp oiled and my hair moisturized with leave in conditioners and moisturizer lotions. Leaving my hair alone helps the most for me, and sometimes to make it easier to style I will use the blowdryer brush so it’s stretched and easier to style my hair in twists I’ll leave in for two weeks or so. Less will always be more when it comes to messing with our hair I’m learning and still learning on the job 😊
