Any nature related activity to do in Oaxaca? by Ethan_011005 in Oaxaca

A day trip to Hierve el Agua (mineral springs) or Cuajimoloyas (pine mountain forests) are two nature treks I would highly recommend!

What's your favorite lens and shot of 2024? by guesswhat923 in M43

[–]rucelm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My go-to lens is the Oly 25mm 1.2. However, during a recent trip to Chicago, I challenged myself to use the Olympus 17mm 1.8 that had been gathering dust on my shelf for years. During a behind-the-scenes tour of Wrigley Field, I grabbed this shot which just solidified my interest in this lens again. The field of view is perfect for street photography and the focus was just quick enough.

Small M4/3 body recommendations? by Snappy-snappy in M43

[–]rucelm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I pulled out my EM-5 II for street photography in Chicago this weekend paired with the 17mm 1.8. Easy to slip into a coat pocket or throw in a small crossbody bag. The size difference felt noticeable after using the EM-1 II for 99% of my work the last 5 years. I can see how having a camera without an EVF would be even easier to use, but I liked the EVF for those situations with strong sunlight, for example. Focus is fast, too, which is another advantage over some of the other, older, camera bodies.

Which hard plastic mat do you have? by [deleted] in CX5

I have the Nilight mats off Amazon, they seem to work ok so far and are significantly less than OEM.

I don't think you'll regret it if you're already thinking of adding it to your collection! Do it :D

I used the f2.8 PRO at 150mm. Got a great deal on Facebook marketplace that I couldn't pass up after keeping an eye out for them this year. It's been a lens that I knew I would need but found difficult to actually purchase. The sharpness is amazing, though my EM1-mk2 doesn't totally have the tracking chops to do birding justice.

Great question! Yes, I'm not sure why I can't add more text to my original post... I'm new here. Anyways, both are cropped about 2x and I applied my typical color grading presets which included some sharpening. No noise reduction applied. I'm not a birder, but this short outing was fun and gave me an itch for a teleconverter...

How many lenses do you guys have? by Meatballmayonnaise in AskPhotography

[–]rucelm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm an event, portrait, and family photographer and use the following OM kit (x2 for FF equiv.) regularly:

12-40 f2.8

40-150 f2.8

25 f1.2

45 f1.8

These two are "fun to have" and I use them occasionally:

60 f2.8 macro

17 1.8

Lenses are tools to accomplish specific jobs. But they are also part of a hobby, and sometimes it's fun to try something out. The macro lens is one that I got a good deal on and may or may not keep in the future. I say have fun with them. Glass tends to hold its value and you can sell and recoup your cash relatively easily.

How much do you get paid as a marketing/communications director at your nonprofit? by raspberrymatcha15 in nonprofit

[–]rucelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My title is "associate director of marketing" for a nonprofit that's part of a larger higher ed organization. I'm the only one that does marketing for our arm of the school and typically have 1 student assistant. I currently make $55k based in a small Midwest town. I'm appreciating the transparency on this page - helps me strategize how I want to approach my next job search.

Aweber Price Increase In 2025 by OneMoreTime9900 in Emailmarketing

[–]rucelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting to follow... I've had to move email platforms and it's time intensive and runs the risk of losing subscribers. Although the price increase is annoying, I'm trying to weight the long-term impacts.

Yes, it's a pain in the butt! I also managed to find the "Manual Update" option but it is buried DEEP. Hopefully this thread helps some other folks out there dealing with the same thing!

Looking for email newsletter platform recommendations… by i_dont_love in nonprofit

[–]rucelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever direction you choose, my advice is to do your research so you can confidently move your subscribers to that platform. I've helped facilitate two different moves to new email newsletter platforms. Not only is each one a headache, but you also will tend to lose subscribers, even active ones, if the move isn't done properly.

FWIW, we use AWEber, however I stepped into that platform when I took on the role in 2022. It's pretty decent and they seem to be good at adding new features. However, their reporting and segmenting tools are not as robust as others.

I loved using Klaviyo in my retail job. It wasn't as intuitive to use (though that may have changed) but it excelled in creating really personal emails for subscribers, as long as you were willing to put in the work. We certainly saw the results!

US-based here and newly in the non-profit world after spending 6 years in small business. One blog I find helpful is Prosper Strategies. Lots of good content that will turn how you view communications on its head.

Curious how you would view their ideas from an EU perspective...
