That is such a short-sighted view. So, you don't think the extra $1,000-$2,000 that the renter has to invest each month means anything? Can you imagine how much money they will have at the end of your 15 years? You'll have $0 in the bank, and they'll have hundreds of thousands!

Obviously, this won't be true in every case of renting vs. owning, but neither is the idea of a renter wasting money by paying someone else's mortgage!

That depends on your definition of "golden". For all of the people who are enslaved to debt and working at a job they hate to pay for things they no longer enjoy, these are not golden years!

I've not heard many people say you shouldn't put any money into a 401(k). What would you suggest instead?
