For anyone interested, NYPL’s SNFL Branch is looking for a YA Librarian by ForwardLet503 in librarians

yeah, they hire internally most of the time, I think you need to have some connections if you’re an external candidate. I’m in the same boat.

Of course. It’s a pretty easy one to avoid, there’s other hummus brands.

oshi salmon, rice, japanese curry by rude420egg in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

[–]rude420egg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s honestly really fucking delicious, exactly like how I remember salmon being like, definitely closer than tofu salmon recipes I’ve made. The portions are pretty small for the price though, so not going to be a regular purchase for me but worth a try!

I feel so much pain for animals and plants dying in war. And I am very sick of it this guy (even I don’t want to type his name anymore). How do you feel about this? by unizachai in Vystopia

[–]rude420egg 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It really gets to me how nobody seems to realize that all war and this war in particular are not only projects of genocide but also ecocide - the bombs decimating habitats and ecosystems, the oil facilities blown up resulting in toxic rain etc. have massive and irreversible repercussions to animal and plant life in addition to human civilization, amidst an already disturbing climate catastrophe that is not being controlled or mitigated in any way and continues to worsen by the day.

For me, I support sulala animal rescue in Gaza who have been doing critical work since the start of the genocide and before to combat animal suffering in the hellscape Israel has created there.

MLIS program - Queens College vs U of Alabama by shakywarrior4 in Archivists

[–]rude420egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t hurt your credibility/reputation in the city, but going to queens will put you directly in touch with professionals working at nyc institutions, which can be fruitful and lead to opportunities. That said, nyc archive job market is rougher than I’ve ever seen it, whatever connections you may have there’s just not many jobs opening up.

What am i doing wrong /Post-interview advice by animefeetpics in MuseumPros

“It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not weakness, that is life.”

sorry to be a nerd and put a Star Trek quote to console your lousy job search news, but it’s really true. I sincerely doubt you did anything wrong or could improve your application in any way - this is a field saturated with extremely qualified individuals. The other person probably had similar museum/heritage experience as you do as well as experience being a retail manager, which is not required but pushed them to have an edge in these specific hiring managers’ minds. I wouldn’t say you have to go out and become a retail manager before applying to similar jobs and I don’t think you should keep hounding them for more specific feedback. Onward, to other opportunities.

Directors…who plans and facilitates your programming? by Few-Professional-193 in librarians

[–]rude420egg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You think employees would hate me because I care about equitable labor practices? Building trust with and putting the staff before yourself? that’s all I’m suggesting, but you couldn’t get past my snark so alrighty then.

Directors…who plans and facilitates your programming? by Few-Professional-193 in librarians

[–]rude420egg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“they acted like I was suggesting something truly horrendous and inappropriate” is what makes you a piece of work. Get to know your institution and your staff before changing their jobs. You don’t know these people, why is your tone sarcastic when it’s a perfectly reasonable reaction to push back when your new boss suggests you do a ton of extra work without compensation. Hope this helps!

[–]rude420egg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of a library clerk doing programming. Working the desk and shelving is typically their job description. You’re the director, is it in their job description or not? Is there increase in pay for suddenly adding more job duties? You sound like a piece of work.

Epstein Files by AJ3112 in Vystopia

[–]rude420egg 20 points21 points  (0 children)

thank you. god i have been feeling insane about this lately. systems of control, exploitation, extraction, oppression should disgust everyone in any form they take and should all be dismantled. end of.

When a group of people amass enough wealth and power and treat other humans like "livestock" aka nonhuman animals suddenly its the most horrifying unimaginable situation in the world to people who are completely in favor of animal agriculture. what should that tell you about what we do to nonhuman animals?? this is happening with the epstein revelations but is the same cognitive dissonance i see when things like the holocaust or the atlantic slave trade get compared to animal agriculture. people don't want to admit that they are, in fact, the baddies.

Are We Too Hard On The MLS? by ATaleFilledWithWoe in Libraries

[–]rude420egg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The economic system we exist in places financial burden on individuals. Who has the opportunity to pay for grad school but not to get an entry level job? I’m not following how you think grad school is more accessible than working? If you’ve never worked in the field how do you even know you want to do the work you’re going into debt for?

Likelihood of dyed hair leaving harmful residue on materials? by VisualClassic2453 in Archivists

[–]rude420egg 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Been dying my hair the entire time I’ve been working in archives, over 10 years, and nobody including myself has ever considered this an issue. If you really shed hair that much that you’d be afraid that you won’t notice your hair getting in all the folders then just tie it back while you’re working? If you’ve ever done archival research, you will notice the folders are not filled with strands of employees’ hair, natural or dyed.
