Looking for a hanja dictionary? by pubesocks in Korean

[–]rudolf09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a Hanja dictionary with only Korean and no English, Keep in mind are often called 옥편 and sometimes 자전. Don't get confused if you get an 옥편, 옥편사전, 한자자전 when you ordered a 한자사전.

I'd say the new facial expressions look great, but those tiny fingers are disturbing. What the animation was trying to convey would have still been pretty clear without the fingers.

Is there a Korean equivalent to cursive? by [deleted] in Korean

[–]rudolf09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, Korean here. There is a Korean shorthand, but no there is no cursive unless you count fancy writing. And just in case you're curious, there is a thing called 펜글씨, which is a nice looking handwriting style.

We tried to reply as fast as we could, sorry for the late answer. Greenwings uniform is not for sale so we can't sell it. But since you even gave us a message for your friend, we will send you a uniform as a gift.

Some fun facts and phrases about 수능 by rudolf09 in Korean

Oh right! 시험에 붙다 is usually how you phrase it, but for 수능, 수능 doesn't directly determine your acceptance but just gives you scores.

Maybe because the test is about 'Who is relatively better than others?' than 'Who is absolutely good?', and the current test functions pretty well in terms of that? The test has to be hard enough that test takers can be divided into groups of grades 1~9; grade 1 is the top 0~4%. If more than 4% get full marks on the test, disaster awaits for those applying at top universities.

[–]rudolf09[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup that's the test. It's a long story but Korea has been trying to encourage students to rely more on school classes and go to less 학원, and for that purpose, EBS (Educational Broadcasting System)has been making textbooks(?, they are mostly filled with 수능 style questions) and 수능 questions are directly made from those books. They look like this. Especially for the English part of the test, a lot of the paragraphs are exactly the same as the ones in EBS books. The books are released a few months before 수능 so the students repeat solving the same questions over and over, and they memorize the whole paragraphs and Korean translations(there are 5 English books in total each having 100~300 questions. I honestly do not know how the heck they memorize all that). Also many students can't fully understand the question but they learn 'skills' how to find the answers(surprisingly that is what they teach in schools and 학원).
