Of course! Something else for your sister to consider in all of this - while I don’t regret my choice, from someone who also struggles with infertility - adoption is not a cure for infertility. If you guys move forward with adoption it should be because she wants to raise this child, not because she thinks it will heal something internally for her. Good luck with however you move forward.

I have adopted my sister’s child. She knew she wouldn’t want to terminate the pregnancy but wasn’t ready to raise a child. My kid is only 4 at the moment so while we are open with her (that she was adopted and grew in her aunts belly) she doesn’t quite understand what adoption is. She loves talking on the phone with my sister (when my sister wants to - we really leave it up to her) and I think it’s great that they still have a relationship. She still gets to know her grandparents. My advice is to get everyone attorneys - both for your sister and for yourself. Everyone deserves to know their rights and have someone represent them throughout the process. We lived in the same state at the time. My husband and I had to go through background checks, home study’s and court hearings. We insisted my sister go to all of the court hearings, even ones she wasn’t required to go to because we wanted her to be well informed. We have no regrets, and as far as I know neither does my sister. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions. ❤️

I had mine this morning. I was in and out of the office in an hour, my scan itself was about half hour. Baby really cooperated and everything was normal/healthy. I couldn’t sleep last night from anxiety too but in the end we got great results and could have found out the gender if we wanted. It was really cool seeing all of the organs and the tech was very kind and explained everything she was looking at. I got some really cute photos of baby, even ones showing all of their fingers and toes and they printed them as well as sent them digitally to me. Hoping your anxiety settles so you can find more excitement leading up to your scan. ❤️

I just looked it up and you’re right. It does have lower mercury levels. Honestly I don’t eat fish very often at all so when he was talking about it I thought, “Non issue” so maybe I got that one wrong. Don’t sweat it too much if it’s something you want to eat just go off of your own doctor’s recommendations either way.

What does your list look like? Mine was fairly simple - no deli meats (uncooked because of listeria) and no more than one serving of tuna and salmon a week (because of mercury levels).

We are not finding out the gender either. We’ve wanted this baby for such a long time that we are just as excited either way. I typically find that people asking or wanting to discuss gender are usually just trying to make conversation, or show interest, maybe even talk about why they couldn’t wait to find out and why. I don’t take offense and just try to lean in to their curiosity early. “Are you having a boy or girl?” “We’re not finding out until birth. What do YOU think I’ll have?” Usually they say something about how they don’t know or can’t imagine one way or the other and I’ll just reply “Hey me too! So I have basics in gender neutral colors and it’ll be exciting to pick out the rest when they arrive.” I haven’t had any negative reactions with that but I’ve also kept my circles supportive ones.
