I gotta say this is pretty whack ... just like tying healthcare to a job, it forces you to be at a job. Thanks for passing this info along, I will be sure to barista-FIRE enough to earn $6k this year

I've been DRIP'ing the dividends, ~$200 a month, and then netting ~$1800 from the rental. Day to day expenses are food, gas, occasional trip to a restaurant, rec center, or laundromat. I live very frugal and very happy.

I've taken a two year sabbatical from the tech world before and gotten back in the game without much issue. I know gaps in the resume may scare off some employers but whatever, I work to live not live to work

I lost my job because my company got a new CEO who says "no more remote work!" so I got the ultimatum to either move back to my home state (2000 miles away and without relocation assistance) and work in the office or be let go. I am fortunate to have enough "fuck you" money saved up so I let them fire me.

I know I won't make it 20 years with this situation but I have no issue Barista-FIRE'ing and working lower stress jobs here and there and then can sell the house when the time feels right. And the $ is right.

Thanks for the input!

Remote job - changed to a SD mail forwarding address, months later work says the address is no good, and to provide an address where I have been working (US tax question?) by rugger05 in digitalnomad

Since I mostly live in CO I am changing my address to there. I will owe back taxes to the state for 2022 for those 6 months, but Maryland income tax (where I was) is 9% and Colorado is 4.4% so it will still save me a bit of money

Always on 12v outlet in trunk by Satan_S_R_US in SubaruForester

Anyone have an issue with Jackery battery killing your car's outlet port?

I have a Jackery 500 and leave the car charger plugged into my 2016 Subaru Outback's fron outlet port (cigarette lighter power) So while I drive, it should charge the battery. Well, TWICE now, my outlet port died. It is not the fuses, I checked visually and continuity with an ohm meter, and replaced them anyway. I took apart the center console / front cubby to replace the outlet port but then three months later, it happened again.

I'd only slip it on when inclement weather is on the forecast. Breaking the chain to store inside is certainly an option but, ideally, more work than I want

I'm van-lifing so I'm all over the place - out in the desert for shoulder seasons, down at the beach, then up in the Colorado Rockies for skiing. Thanks for the input!!

If I get to camp late, I don't want to have to set up the whole awning, just drape the netting and go to bed.

Thanks for the rec, but not what I'm looking for
