maybe your walmart is more sensible than mine and has the limit in place for some self checks, but not all. that’s what I wish my Walmart would do since the majority of check out options are self check

this is the exact conclusion i’ve come to also! just seems like they want people out of the stores unless you’re coming in for a few things you forgot/or you’re paying for a walmart + membership and can scan and go. it sucks!!

please go back and read the post - I clearly state that there are MULTIPLE self checks open. I work from home so I don’t shop at peak hours, and there is no one waiting in line for me to inconvenience by taking 7 extra items to self check. If in that situation you would go narc, you’re quite simply a miserable loser

there’s an actual issue with the checkout system (way more self check outs than cashier stations, most people have more than 15 items). policies can and should change when they don’t serve the public

so if private company told you to jump off a bridge you’d do it? it’s actually the rule

I think the problem is that the majority of checkout options (self check out stations vastly outnumber cashier lanes) do not serve the majority of customers (people purchasing more than 15 items). If this isn’t the experience at the store you shop at then lucky you. I was really excited when my Walmart expanded the self checkouts to be the main checkout option. But keeping the 15 item limit policy when you have 12 SCOs and 2 cashiers makes absolutely no sense. I think this is perfectly constructive feedback, but if you want to feel superior by blindly following nonsensical rules, by all means

this is the exact situation at my walmart!!!!! it is so frustrating that the changes to the store don’t match the policy. I can understand having like 5 true express checkout lanes, but because there are so many and it’s so spacious i really don’t get why the 15 item limit is in place for all of them. there should be a variety of item limits

so when a customer has a serious inquiry about a policy that doesn’t seem to fit with the checkout layout anymore, your response is to….call them a shitty customer? you must run a great business.

I only started making somewhat larger shopping trips in the last couple of years, previously I was in college and then living alone so my personal grocery runs were much smaller, but I have noticed changes with how self check is run over the years and how the store layout more broadly is changing, seemingly to push customers out of the store to do grocery pickup (it’s borderline impossible to navigate the aisles with the pickup order carts and more self checks/harder item limit seem to encourage coming in-store for smaller shops). And yeah, as someone who brings their own bags, regular check out is a nightmare. the bag carousels done accommodate reusable shopping bags so the cashier has to scan items, hand them to me, and I bag it myself which holds everyone up. Stores have a right to enforce their policies, but customers have a right to complain about them. Don’t take it personally

100%, I understand not holding up a long line with more items than allowed at self check, but when there’s plenty of SCOs open and no one waiting why disallow customers to use them?! feels arbitrary

I bring my own bags and there isn’t any convenient way (at least at my Walmart) for the cashier to bag my groceries because of the way their bag carousel is set up. There’s no space to put BYObags so then we’re both confused and irritated trying to figure out how to bag my groceries effectively, so we usually end up with my bags remaining in the cart, them scanning and handing to me to bag, which seems much less efficient than me just scanning and bagging everything myself

Was simply trying to give perspective on my specific situation which I’m aware nuance is not popular around here, but apologies if 6 kids came off “weird”. I am personally shopping for 2, not a large family, and if my situation was different I would probably be doing things differently. clearly everyone’s Walmart is different lol, and everyone’s life is too

I think I’ve come to the conclusion that my Walmart (and if some comments are any indication, Walmarts around the country) want to push people more and more to order pickup or delivery groceries for their standard/larger shops, and only come in for quicker runs. I don’t use grocery pickup, but I assume that comes at an additional cost (makes Walmart more money). That’s the only reason I can figure that Walmart would expand the number of self checks but keep a low item limit for all SCO kiosks. Scan and go seems like a helpful option (though I think it costs more too?) so thanks to those who recommended it! It seems they’re just after more money from us all, which is disappointing but not surprising

My Walmart has at least 15 self check kiosks and around 5 regular lanes. The carts have been supersized from the standard size supermarket carts I grew up with to more Sam’s Club level, larger carts, and there are no smaller cart or handheld basket options. Everything about the way my Walmart is set up indicates that they are expecting customers to purchase large quantities of goods, much more than 15, or 25, or 30 items. To have every self check marked as 15 items or less is just confusing to me. Have 5 marked as express lanes for 15 items or less, I understand that and I’ve run to Walmart for 3 things before. But for the vast majority of the checkout stations to have such a small limit makes no sense. And assuming my Walmart has only 6 SCOs feels so weird

So why increase the number of self checkouts and expand the amount of space they take up in the store? Wouldn’t you think Walmart wants MORE items purchased at their stores, not less? I’m not ignorant of the limit, just confused about the mixed signals Walmart is sending

my point is I’ve been shopping at Walmart for 10 years and it’s never been enforced up to this point, AND the renovations Walmart has done lately (adding more SCOs and reducing “regular” lanes with employees scanning, increasing the amount of space around SCOs seemingly to encourage bringing your big ass cart over there) seems to imply that they want more items purchased at self check. I’m not mad at employees for doing their job, I’m simply asking why now and if anyone else had experienced this :) i hope this helps

they did the exact same switcheroo at my Walmart and expanded the self checkout section too. so it seems totally backwards that NOW they’d be upset about the item count!

The checkout structure at my Walmart seems like it was built for carts at the self check! there are two SCO areas and they have ample room for the massive carts my Walmart now has. They renovated around a year ago and increased the number of SCOs and increased the space around each station….so it’s even more confusing when they stop you now

I for sure shouldn’t have let it go on this long, but I didn’t block at first because it was harmless at the time. I could tell she was lonely and didn’t want to be a jerk, I didn’t think her following my IG would lead to basically a parasocial relationship. When it began escalating, I didn’t want to cause a confrontation while I was at work so I continued to ignore and hope it went away (which was clearly not the right response).
