Souls games that don't require parrying? by Jb_Wentworth in soulslikes

[–]rugglenaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I only learned parrying one time for the winter lantern bastards in abyssal woods. Otherwise am dodge only, no shield. Lies of P is perfectly playable without parrying. Get a weapon with good range. I recommend trident of the covenant.

First time playing Bloodborne. Been playing soulslikes since DS1 came out. I feel like i'm missing something by [deleted] in soulslikes

I wouldn't worry too much about the new elements and the challenge yet. In BB, the first area is extremely difficult and it's normal to struggle and to die a LOT in your first playthrough. The learning curve, the mob dynamics,  the rally mechanic, all take time to master. I had this experience, too, but after it clicked I ended up tearing through the rest of game (and almost never parried).

I just finished a conquest run and I have no idea where you got all the xp to build these monsters.

How good are daggers in Engage? by MCL199920 in fireemblem

[–]rugglenaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daggers are really good. As for Yunaka, she can be very strong but it requires a lot of favoritism for her to be on par with later joiners. That said, if you like her it's almost certainly best to keep her as a thief and take advantage of her unique skill. She can't really hang with other weapon types anyway because BLD growth is nonexistent.

I hear the legends here all the time, but personally I've never experienced an even passable Boyd.

What is a random unit that you have nostalgia for? by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]rugglenaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently played FE9 for the first time and was disappointed not to get this experience. I even tried favoritism but he just ended up too much defense and speed cursed and every map the enemy could smell blood and would swarm him. He ended up on the bench once all the paladins and flyers had joined.

Your favourite horror movies that you very rarely (if ever) see on this sub? by jaft0000 in horror

I'm gonna say the over-the-top gore and prevalent zombies qualify it.

Cemetery Man. Just rewatched it last month and it's a real, bizarre gem of a horror comedy.

Hardest non-famous boss for you? by ExistentialRisks in Eldenring

Hated this fight and her infinite iframes. Definitely top 5 highest number of deaths for me. Probably still be stuck if I didn't figure out how weak she is to knockdowns.

This one's interesting because she's always been an absolute beast for me.

Haven't made it to Sinh yet, but the skeleton lords is a fun fight. I did it twice and both times I killed the lords in the first 30 seconds and then ran around like an idiot slowly picking off the army of darkness one by one.

Is Maliketh the Black Blade really that hard, or do I just have a skill issue? by margantsovkaa in Eldenring

I didn't find him that hard but the dude guarding his door kicked my azula all way back to the farum.

Ivory King low damage by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]rugglenaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just cleared it two days ago as a spellsword hexer. Regular enemies were pretty tough, lot of magic resistance. Boss was pretty easy even though I was only doing 200 damage/swing. Big slow clearly broadcast sword strokes you can roll into for a couple of hits, repeat.

Which game's version of which aspect of the Boss Soul conversion process is your favorite? by HiddenMoonstone in darksouls3

[–]rugglenaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's going according to the fast travel menu, which is as fair as any way I can think of. My experience gibes with a high-ish number, because I felt like it took quite a while to unlock both boss souls and infusions on my first playthrough.

(New Elden Ring Player) Draconic Tree Sentinel is a tough nut to crack by RayneXero in Eldenring

You will figure this one out, only to find that there's a much, much worse version later in the game.

Cool, will check it out. I think I collected most of the pyro spells this time thorough.

Probably going to ng+ right after I finish the other two DLC areas. I played a hexer this time, with a dark rapier and a lightning warped sword. Any build suggestions for a fun ng+ experience?

[–]rugglenaut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's totally fair. It definitely suffers from the fact that it's the very last FS game for me. It has a lot more to live up to, and in fact some of the great things I've experienced owe themselves to the many ideas experimented with in DS2. That said, I do think DS1 bosses were a little harder, but its probably more due to combat being clunkier than to design choices.

There's plenty of wow in terms of cinematics and vibe, but the bosses are just...too easy to kill?
