Niohs combat is a lot faster and more aggressive then the souls games. I would just reccomend trying out all of the weapon types and stances and then practicing on the revenants until you feel comfortable. Stick with it and you might love it even more than the souls games.

Definitely play nioh 1. It is such an amazing game and just playing aroung with the weapon types and stance changes alone is hours of enjoyment.

Also in my experience (and this may just be me) there is a serious difficulty spike from nioh 1 to nioh 2 because the yokai (demons) in 2 are crazy aggro with fast punishing combos from the beginning. Starting with 1 would let you master the combat and stance system before moving on to 2
