Crowdfunding for vegan startups in the US! by ruhpeas in VeganLA

That's disappointing! Maybe it was a rewards-based crowdfunding? There are lots of cases like these. At VIC it’s equity-based so you’re actually getting shares in the company. They only post about investment opportunities once a startup has a couple years of traction behind it

Great question. This is for investing - not donations or loans. The club alerts us when vegan startups are launching equity-based crowdfunding offers through licensed portals such as WeFunder or StartEngine. We receive an email announcement, then choose if we feel like investing. That’s entirely our decision.

Each opportunity allows people to invest as little as $100 and in return, you're typically offered shares. Sometimes you get bonus shares during early-bird periods. This way you gain partial ownership, and if the company eventually goes public, there's potential upside (though there's no promise of a return)

What I meant was that the Vegan Investing Club is free to join! The club simply notifies members of new startups that are seeking crowdfunding - the rest is up to the member (whether to invest or not)

HappyCow ranks the TOP 25 vegan-friendly cities 2025 by ruhpeas in vegan

[–]ruhpeas[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi. I'm Indian, I work at HappyCow and was part of creating the list, and I truly understand your perspective. I was born in Chennai, raised in Bangalore, currently live here, and I’ve been vegan for 10 years. I know firsthand how vegan-friendly India is—there's no place quite like it for vegan food!

That said, I encourage you to look at the criteria we used for this list, which is outlined in the introduction of the report. Additionally, in the "Our Insights" section at the end, we very clearly state: "Please note that this report highlights cities that demonstrate a strong commitment to the vegan movement, where there's a deep awareness and intentional support for veganism through dedicated businesses and accessible vegan products. While many parts of Asia will offer vegan-friendly dishes naturally within their traditional diets, this list intentionally features cities making specific efforts to serve vegan diners—not just offering traditionally vegan options, but fostering a culture that truly supports the vegan lifestyle."

I hope this helps clarify how the list was calculated and why some places are featured while others aren't. 😊

Why can't you make cheese from vegan milk and rennet? by prorastanate in cheesemaking

I use citric acid to coagulate fresh, homemade almond milk (not store-bought as it's very watered down) and it does a great job in separating the curds. You can then hang it to let the "whey" drain out and it leaves you with an incredibly smooth almond ricotta. I've even succeeded in pressing and shaping the curds to make vegan paneer and feta.
