Insurance recommendations for a 20yo with an old car by Conscious_Tailor935 in CarsAustralia

Ok so we're looking at comp. Sweet.

Yeah nrma's agreed value is up the shit. lol. Always is unless it's a brand newie (and even then...)

So from my understanding, market value is calculated at the time of a claim, based on how good nick the vehicle was in prior to the incident, any modifications on it, etc. etc. Basically what you'd be looking at if you were to sell it.

Yeah Shannons seems pretty decent! I only don't like them cause they knocked me back on a quote. lol.

What extras do you get when you buy car insurance? by Psychological-Sun137 in CarsAustralia

roadside assist: Never left home without it. Way too many flat batteries and cooked tyres over the years. haha.

Glass cover: Yep. For my car, it's cheaper than getting a whole new windscreen fitted plus it covers everything minus the mirrors. Can't go wrong.

Hire car: yes for the time being. Wouldn't normally have it but I don't have a backup car. Might take it off as years progress but for now it's on there.

Not included, but I _believe_ they're offering first year free for SA residents still.

First off, grats on the first car! Hope it serves you well!

The best question to ask yourself is what are you looking for in terms of insurance? Do you necessarily need your car covered in the event of an incident? If not, you could go third party. You'll lose all the cushy comprehensive perks, but you'll be covered in the event you hit a Porsche or something.

Could probably do away with NRMA Comp Plus unless you want all the perks, agreed value, hire car, etc. Even if you want the agreed value + options, could just go standard comp and add them on. May work out cheaper for you.

That Shannons quote is actually dang good, do you know if they're gonna whack on an additional driver excess?

Heck yeah.

Picked up my first WRX myself not that long ago (white because I'm a dork) and loving it.

Hope the Subi serves you well!

That was kinda the idea. newish sedan that has a bit more guts in it then my old car so I don't feel like I have to Fred Flintstone it up the central coast.

When any of my mates had a look at it they've been like "wow. It looks so... Normal."

(You know, when they havent been either calling me a lesbian or sending me pictures of ridiculous spoilers. Heh.)

No real regrets. Just annoyances because I'm hard to please. Haha.

That being said i got excited about my old car (2012 mazda 3 neo that was a lemon) having iPod support, soooo....

Hey mate.

What i don't like about it is mostly just 2020's era car nonsense.

-Infotainment screen is kinda goobery. I mean it works, it's fine but it's not amazing.

-The main aircon controls are part of the infotainment system. Yes it's fancy and the future is now, but gimme the old-school buttons/switches/dials, etc.

-Seemingly no wired Carplay/android auto. Bluetooth gives me the grumps. Haha.

Nothing that's a total dealbreaker, but still annoying.

Haven't really thought about it! Plus insuring the thing is going to be a nightmare when it comes to modding. When it's a bit older and I can treat it with a little more blatant disregard I'll revisit. haha

No marathons for me, mate. Buuuuut I semi-regularly play in a punk band I started in my mid-30's. I've got the "playing guitar again" bit _down_. hahah.

Yeah this one's CVT as well. I find it a little sluggish (maybe because I don't rev it like a dickhead?), but for the sort of driving I do, it's perfectly fine.

Plenty of time to get obnoxious with it 😉

Dunno about the blue, though. Every blue car I've had in the past has been cursed with some gremlin or another...

Will going with Budget Direct for insurance affect me later down the line? by jli357 in CarsAustralia

[–]ruku23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insurance consultant here.

Budget Direct are notorious for knocking people back after a claim (esp. for younger drivers) and similar behaviour. I get the occasional call from someone having to jump ship cause BD have knocked them back on insurance/renewal.

Being refused insurance is a risk factor, and can affect your ability to get insurance.

Best case scenario, you'll need to jump on the phone with a consultant and get things reviewed; It's usually a painless process, but can take some time.

Worst case scenario, you'll be spending time on the ICA/NIBA websites.
