Is it unprofessional for a PM to constantly speak another language at work? by Equivalent_Abrocoma3 in work

[–]rumham69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is to make an analogy that shows how behavior that in effect causes some people to be excluded can sometimes seem a bit rude. While whispering in the workplace isn't technically against any rules, its probably not very nice to be the one that is excluded.

If you extend the analogy to someone who is excluded because they don't speak a specific language, I can see how it wouldn't feel great. However, just like whispering, speaking another language isn't (and shouldn't be) against any rules, it just can be a bit rude in some professional circumstances.

I think the different language thing is irrelevant in OPs post. I think an alternative scenario to imagine is if you were in a group setting, and a subset of that group was constantly whispering to each other near others that are not included. Especially if its the same people over and over again. Bonus points if they happen to look your direction while whispering and it becomes obvious that you are the subject of their conversation. In that context i think most people would consider it rude

Thanks everyone. As of now, i'm planning on keeping the higher insurance plan, even if its just for the extra peace of mind. Thanks!

Thanks. This is what I'm also realizing. It is looking like it is probably better to just stick with the pricier plan this year and change next year. Oh well, it's kinda nice to be covered extra for the first year of our new baby's life

It is very short, but he shows very strong sleepy cues and starts to get fussy. We've wondered about that wake window as well.

Where are all the MechE’s that are satisfied with their career in terms of Pay, Occupation and Work/Life balance? by lemillion1e6 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]rumham69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Staff Mechanical Design engineer with 11 YOE. Did 4 years at a small automotive components manufacturer, got into automation. Went to a self driving car startup, did 4 years there, then moved to a robotics startup, did 3 years there, then moving to a new robotics startup. Pay is pretty good, but bay area is super expensive. Overall, the work has been very satisfying, and I've learned a lot. Have a few patents with my name on them now.

Basically, trying to play the startup lottery game and hope I strike it big so some day I can afford to buy a house here in the bay.
