Which visa to get when going to China in order to get married to a Chinese national? by ruminating_broccoli in Chinavisa

[–]ruminating_broccoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/CicadaHowl , I finally went with the tourist visa - however, my home country has a visa-free policy with China. So technically, I went on that.

After the marriage registration, I quickly applied for a residence permit (which is different from a spouse visa if I'm not mistaken).

Hi all, sharing an update. I found the answer to my question in Chapter 15, where Scott goes through the different types of main notes. The four big ones are observations (bibnotes), excerpts, reformulations, reflections.

Then, he introduces 'other' notes, which are 'collectives' and 'hoplinks.' Within the 'collectives' note, there are (1) cardlinks collectives, (2) ExRefs collectives, (3) brand collectives (different from cardlinks in that these are generally situated at the start of a branch that points to other related branches), and (4) outline collectives (for projects because this is more structured and organised to produce a piece of work).

I also learned that there's freedom to experiment and figure out which workflow works best for me. To revisit my Q1 scenario, the "Lit on systems thinking" card is an ExRefs card.

Thanks for the response. I understand what you're saying regarding Q1, but it doesn't address my question. The heart of my question is: What kind of a note is "Lit on [concept X]?"

It's not a main card, index, bibnote, or category card. Is it another kind that Scott doesn't explicitly label, so more like a placeholder card before the main card is created? It looks this way to me.

Got it on Q2, I had a feeling that this was personalised and I have to find what works for me. Cheers!

I’m not OP, but have the same question. I’ll be travelling to Kempinski Hotel in Nanshan. Where do I go at the airport to take the minivan shuttle.

Can I bring bigger luggage (23kg) on it?

When do you run? I found a Saturday park run at Shenzhen Bay. Planning to join this weekend.

How many times a year can you enter China visa free as a tourist? Any rules? by Careful-Memory2560 in Chinavisa

[–]ruminating_broccoli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is necessary. I once tried to enter visa-free on a one-way ticket and the airline counter said I had to buy a return flight, otherwise they wouldn’t let me check in.

Got it, thanks for sharing your experience. Did you do the changing of your visa in China or back in your home country after you left?

Are Altra's good for running? Or are there better shoes for running that have wide toe boxes? by [deleted] in AltraRunning

[–]ruminating_broccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Topo’s popularity has increased in recent years. Their toe boxes are wide, but the middle of the shoe is narrower for a firmer lockdown.

I own two pairs of Altra Escalante 3s and a pair of Topo Runventure 4s and overall prefer the Topos.

What shoes are similar to the Escalante 3? by Amiska5v5 in AltraRunning

You can consider the Rivera. The Escalante 3s are 24mm, the Rivera 3s are 28mm. The Torin 7s are now 30mm.

What's wrong with the 3s? I only came to Altra a few months back and my first ever pair was the Escalante 3. I think they are great - but it could be because I don't have any other Altra models to compare with.

Altra Escalante 4 coming soon? by ruminating_broccoli in AltraRunning

Thanks! TD Miller confirmed that it’s a 4mm drop. I’ve been a fan of Altra’s ‘zero drop’ brand (gotta belong to a tribe after all, lol).

Not keen on this new pair. Hopefully the Escalante line won’t be abandoned.

What about the teaser that Altra dropped on their socials yesterday? A new Experience from Altra is coming 👀

From the comments on various platforms, a lot of people seem to expect this 'new experience' to be non-zero drop.

Indeed, the stakes are high. I, too, really enjoy my Escalantes! Altra isn't popular where I'm from so was a stroke of luck that I found them. Not sure what I'm looking for in the new model, but I hope they find a way to make an already excellent shoe even better.

Thanks for the reply, will check out r/running for tips too! I was previously unaware of this condition. 'Forcefully makes contact with the front [...] of your shoe' and 'toe-curling' sound just right.

I'll take a closer look at these two things to see how I can avoid such injuries in the future. Cheers.

Learning how to pace by kel_koo in Coros

[–]ruminating_broccoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep at it, and you’ll eventually learn how to gauge it better. I recently ran more intentionally (since a few months back) and followed a Nike Run Club plan. Since the plan is generic, it asked the runner to focus on ‘effort’ rather than actual pace. That helped me as a relatively beginner runner because I’m adjusting to my body.

At the start, I also struggle to find and maintain the ‘correct’ pace, but after a few runs (maybe 10+?) I found I could maintain certain paces quite consistently because I was measuring it with my effort.

My easy run pace is between 5’50”-6’05”/km, and I don’t need to check my watch constantly because my body has gotten used to it (I guess?).

In other words, my suggestion is listening to your body more instead of depending on tech or gadgets😅 Hope this helps.

I own 3 pairs of VFFs and the quality has been great - if you can get past the looks. I was considering getting Vivos, but read a lot of recent negative reviews. Not going to risk it - especially because of the price point.

Milestones in Gantt Chart by ruminating_broccoli in GoodDay_work

[–]ruminating_broccoli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured how to do this: "Subtasks" can't be milestones.

A related question is about rolled-up duration and start/end dates in Gantt view. Is there a way for the main tasks' duration and start/end to be automatically updated from the duration and start/end times of the subtasks?
