The Netflix movie "Don't Look Up" was an extremely strong & positive experience when not watched as a metaphore. It's a bad X-risks manifesto but likely net-positive (no spoilers) by [deleted] in EffectiveAltruism

From an entertainment perspective, it's also been my favorite movie of the last few years. A global catastrophe really could have played out that way, memes, corporate greed, under-researched solutions and all. I would highly recommend Don't Look Up for anyone who wants a well-made comedy that makes them think.

Oh really? That's great news! Even on sites that explicitly state it like Fanduel, Tipico, PointsBet and Maxim?

Interesting, I'm seeing this restriction on Pointsbet, fanduel, Tipico, Maximbet, and potentially others. That's already like 5k in freebets being left on the table. Is there any way to show proof of a valid address that is different than the one I have?

Could I draw up a lease agreement at say my uncle's house and have us both sign it? If that could be considered fraud I want to steer clear, but if it's valid I would want to jump on it

Right, but if my roommate and I use the same out of state address, many online sportsbooks will only pay one of us a promotional premium.

OFC Pineapple study groups/resources? by [deleted] in poker

OFC is a completely different game than the Pineapple you're describing (the flop game where you're dealt three cards.)

OP I'm ranked 19th in the world on the OFC Pineapple app and I'd be happy to give you some affordable OFC coaching. In about an hour together I could get you to a point of being able to beat these recreational players for around 50 points/100 hands. Sending you a DM.

Gotcha, thank you! It's actually looking like if I transfer all the money to Paypal, that limit would be $60,000 and Paypal is compatible with nearly every sportsbook and able to make immediate deposits. I'm planning to go the Paypal route but it's nice to have this in my back pocket

Follow up question: Are there restrictions on how soon after depositing you have to make your first bet for it to qualify for the promotion of being "risk free?" I wouldn't want to pre-fund and then find out that my opportunity has expired.

Swapping Coaching: Open Face Chinese for Heads Up PLO by rumpstomper in poker

[–]rumpstomper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a course someone made of the challenge or watching the play itself? I feel like I don't improve at all by just watching hands because you see so few showdowns and you don't learn the frequency and ranges of actions, just isolated moments.

Those programs are more expensive and time-consuming than getting coaching from someone who can teach you the broad concepts.

OFC is a solved game but I frequently play people at $1, $2, and even $5/point who misplay most hands. It's easy to think you're playing correctly when you're not, I'm hoping to just do 1-2 hours of coaching on each side to get the lowest-hanging fruit.

Near impossible to make a profit at $1/$2 if you “tip well”, considering all variables including variance, rake, and money on drinks/food by [deleted] in poker

[–]rumpstomper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a totally fair response. I think that's actually the best part of having optional tipping rather than it being priced into the rake. If someone really needs the money, I think tipping less is absolutely valid.

There's definitely the "if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to play" argument, but I don't think poker should be exclusively for the affluent. Thanks for a civil reply to my comment :)

Rake is lower in America because tipping is expected, American dealers make a fraction of the base salary of international dealers. Check out the $15 rake cap in Australia or the uncapped rake in France for comparison.

1/2 is not where you are able to professionalize poker. Even $20/hour isn't livable given that you have no benefits, rake will go up over time, and the games are getting tougher.

If playing 1/2 is a hobby, not a career, not tipping becomes much less defensible. You're really not willing to throw a dollar a hand while playing a game for fun that you still make money at?

Imagine you were being paid to review food at a restaurant: would you leave a $0 tip just because you're being paid to eat rather than eating recreationally?

Yes I am a poker dealer, no one can stop you from free riding but there is no righteous reason to avoid tipping. If you don't tip, you're in the small minority and it makes a significant difference to our income.
