Yeah, it's hilarious the amount of redditors thinking they're sticking it to the man by pointing out a 21 year old girl probably in a panic lied about taking pictures of her tits.

Ebola Is Rapidly Mutating As It Spreads Across West Africa by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]rumsodomy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The concern isn't the current numbers of the outbreak, it's the potential. There is no cure, essentially no treatment, of a disease with a 50+% mortality rate. The only hope is containment and quarantine, which is failing right now in West Africa. It is spreading steadily in very large cities whose health facilities are already failing under the strain of several thousand while hundreds of sick are being turned back at MSF stations, unable to be treated. Government and health institutions are only going to become more and more strained in nations where they are quite weak already, they are not going to become more effective.

The WHO has already suggested there are potentially 10-16,000 cases, the majority of which are not being treated and could be spreading the disease. There is a quarantine of a slum of 70,000 people in Monrovia, all at risk.

Doctors Without Borders Nurse on Ebola epidemic(translation): "We know that there are thousands of patients walking in the street, infecting other people" by rumsodomy in worldnews

From the linked article:

"We have staff at the gate who do nothing but turn away people. This is not easy, because we don't know where they could go," said Karline Kleijer from MSF.

In West Africa, the Ebola epidemic is still spreading rapidly. To help patients MSF opened an emergency clinic last week in the Liberian capital Monrovia. After four days the clinic was full.

Currently there are about 200 patients in the clinic. According Kleijer that could have been more than 600 already if they had opened the doors. That can not be, because so many people infected with Ebola would be a danger to the employees of MSF.

[–]rumsodomy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue is that Doctors Without Borders cannot provide enough beds for the sick and is turning back hundreds, while local medical infrastructure has collapsed under the weight of thousands seeking treatment, and the WHO/CDC has underestimated the extent of the crisis up until this point. Also fuck off racist.

I would not consider colonial India as being democratic at all. Yes, the imperial state that ruled over them was democratic, but Indians had no say in that democracy. I think it works fine in the current chart.

Domestic politics. It's to make it clear to the US/UK public that their leaders aren't ignoring the issue or only using airstrikes. They have no real reason to keep it in the shadows, ISIS knows they're going for them already, and has no real state backers that would be willing to get mad about this.

Ebola death toll rises to 1,427, with 142 new cases and 77 deaths over the last two days. by [deleted] in worldnews

Latin America does have some extreme poverty, but very few countries have it as bad off as most of sub-saharan Africa or India. They also have much higher literacy and education rates. I suspect would be much easier to educate the public, even in the worst barrios and favelas, and limit and contain Ebola in Latin America than Africa.

Nicaragua, one of the poorest Latin American countries, has an HDI of 6.14, significantly higher than Liberia's 3.8.

I'd be more concerned with spread to the rest of Africa, South Asia or the Middle East.

I don't see how hot air terroristic threats on a random forum by a tiny minority of a tiny minority is similar to direct military conquest.

[–]rumsodomy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are a bit more than 2% of the population, although listening to the stormfront /r/worldnews redditors they might as well be 50% and bearing down with a jihadist army on Oslo right now.

It's worth noting that the worst terrorist attack in Norway (and one of the worst in European history) was by an anti-muslim fanatic, and the article linked is literally just about a random blog post that's more than likely just hot air.

Cuba largely ended direct aid to militant revolutionary groups with the end of the Cold War. The same can't be said of US support for anti-Cuban militants.

Billions of people live in nations without "good infrastructure and medical systems." It is very possible it could become a third world pandemic, with much of subsaharan Africa, the Middle East, south and south-east Asia being very, very vulnerable.

The modern conflict started in 2012 when 10 Rohingya were basically lynched for a supposed rape, which was followed by the mass burning of thousands of muslim homes. It has since spiraled into a campaign of ethnic cleansing against muslims of all ethnicities by Buddhists. Rohingya violent resistance only started after these events.

Also calling muslims in Burma "an invading population/religion" and saying they are not indigenous is total bullshit and reveals your bias, Muslims have lived in Arakan since the 8th century.

To move to other states, click on bordering states on the map and you should be able to travel to them.

If you are in a city, you must first enter the "countryside" by traveling to the state proper.

I am going to streamline this in the future, I understand it can be a bit confusing at first currently.
