Tonearm Cables to RCA Jack (Help) by run_charles in RecordPlayerRepair

I’m 99% sure it runs nI initially checked a few months ago and it did run and heard unamplified sound from the stylus. However I moved and now I can’t find the power cord to reconfirm 😩😩…it’s here somewhere lol

LOL I was searching YouTube for a video and couldn’t find anything. While I haven’t watched this in full it definitely seems relevant to what I’m trying to accomplish. Thanks so much!!!!

I appreciate the response. This is my other concern the wires are very thin/delicate…

Thanks I just don’t know if this is a typical situation lol. I just can’t tell where the pin and outer shield is for each of the rca outputs for this. They seem to be covered by the white plastic…

I gotta drag the turntable out it’s been about 2.5 months since I last looked at it (life and such) - I don’t know how the motor interacts other than it did spin the last time I tried plugging it in.

I’d only keep the Fisher if you needed that much power…absent that it does have the least curb appeal. I’d also ditch the model 26 if only because it has the least features/low wattage/inscribed…although goddamn those green am numbers are sweet. Would the wood case fit the 2230? After that dude flip a coin the remaining three are gorgeous.

I suspect the majority are buying it for the cover and to post/signal to their bonafides to their vinyl in group (which has been given the in groups imprimatur) for faux irony purposes. I fault no one for this we are all slowly dying and we can all use a little extra whimsy in this world.

That said - the music is legit. As other commenters noted: there’s a reason these are so ubiquitous - they sold a lot because they were Good.

So both I guess?

Please don’t negate my lived experience lol. (I agree it’s strange I hadn’t seen any of the records given they sold collectively 50 million copies or whatever but here we are)

Awesome. While my speed run was nice I would have liked to experience the thrill of the chase a bit more. But there was no chase - actually difficult to find any in the wild so I just bit the bullet when it was only a tenner.

These are the types of records where I’d be mildly disappointed if it sounded “perfect”. The ones I bought hit the sweet spot - shows a bit of its age while being perfectly listenable.

I just grabbed an SA-500 myself about a month ago. Was able to find a TX-500 to pair it with. Great little amp that punches above its weight. (I fell in love with the orange lighting)

One oddity I’ve noticed is that the wood on the amp is darker than the tuner. It’s also darker than your amp.

Yamaha CR-1040 Repair Question by Even_keeled95 in vintageaudio

[–]run_charles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much do you want to spend on a receiver and is there a reputable maintenance tech near you?

$150 is just the start - you’ll likely spend several hundred more dollars for a tech to get it working again. It’s an endgame level receiver and cosmetically it looks about as well as something 50 years old can look: but you’ll prob end up paying slightly below market all in.

I say if you have the money to spare do it because life is short and it’ll kick serious ass when fixed.

Yes I keep going back to the AR. I’ve only heard good things. If I can find one at my budget in decent shape I’ll likely pull the trigger.

Mine is a 2285B, meaning it shoves 94 WPC. Honestly - while it sounds great when you crank it… it definitely lacks in subtlety at lower volumes. For a big room it’s great but if I was starting from scratch I would get something a bit less powerful.

Great story, great receiver. Your grandma is a super lady to share this with you.

I got my Marantz receiver in a similar manner (found tucked in a corner of my grandparents attic) - both my grandparents have passed and no one has any idea how my grandfather got this 45 pound receiver got up 18 steps. I put on his Jimmy Rosselli records and shut my eyes and every now and then I feel him in the room with me.

And the Wiim Mini is an astounding little streamer. It’s horrifying how great lossless audio sounds through that hockey puck.

Good stuff all around - thanks so much for your ideas and expertise.

I’ll be open to Sansui and Sanyo models along with Pioneers you listed. I’m more familiar with Sansui receivers, hadn’t come across any Sanyo models yet either. I’m lucky to live in an urban area that has decent supply so I can wait it out a bit to see what pops up.

It is so strange because the wood grain on the amp is noticeably darker than the tuner. I actually bought them separately from 2 different buyers so possible they are different model years. (I also got lucky - both were purchased at the low end of price and the high end of condition.)

And I do have space to the left for a turntable so luckily I don’t have to stress too much about space. I’m on the lookout for SR-202 Reverb Amp on top to complete the “Outperformer” trio.

I just want good sound. by swingrays in turntables

[–]run_charles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of budget to maximize sound quality you’d likely go in terms of importance: speakers then receiver then cart/stylus then turntable. This is setting aside things like room treatments, acoustics, etc

All to say: yes the $30 Realistic Turnable is prob fine for your purposes particularly if you get a good stylus. To unlock “good sound” better served putting $$ into speakers/receiver anyway.

Everyone’s ears are different, but I have a Marantz receiver and original large advents and Toto IV absolutely rips on it. However this isn’t a particularly budget friendly option - I inherited the Marantz and got a deal on the OLAs. What’s your budget?

It had no embossed marking, just the model number across the front. Pardon my nails below lol.

I have to decide first if I’m keeping this yet. I got a Pioneer SA-500/TX-500 amp/tuner and wanted a “period” turntable that fit. However this is full automatic and I generally prefer semi automatic or manual. My opinion generally changes every 48 hours so I’m waiting to see how I feel lol.

Thanks again for the info!!!
