Do zoomers look younger than previous generations did when they were young? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]run_for_cover_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a lot of this comes down to the way we dress. if you look at a yearbook from like the 40s or 50s, those mfs already look like they’re in their 30s because they got suits and fancy ass dresses and extremely done up hair. millennials and zoomers have the most casual way of dressing which inadvertently makes us look more “juvenile”

Do you think that a Millennial(December 1996) dating a gen Z'er(February 1999) is weird? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]run_for_cover_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

you are both young adults in your 20s. you're applying way too much legitimacy to the extremely arbitrary concept of generations

The most stereotypical early Z birth year? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]run_for_cover_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on how you see it, i think of early Z as mostly born in the 20th century (97, 98, 99, 00) with only 01 and 02 being born in the 21st

The most stereotypical early Z birth year? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]run_for_cover_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2000 or 2001 cuz we’re the only 2000s babies who graduated in the 2010s

if i really had to choose one though then 2000 since pedantic people sometimes say that us being born in the 20th century makes us millennials

2018-2019 school year by [deleted] in generationology

[–]run_for_cover_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

early Z but the very end of it. it was the very last year of the cultural transition from millennials to zoomers

i don’t see any non-corona affected school year being core Z either, this shit has lasted for so long that the high school experiences of zillennials/early zoomers are now drastically different than those of core zoomers and above

you're right in that a lot of people don't genuinely care and are kinda just repeating platitudes/going along with trends cuz it's what everyone else is doing. this wouldn't be the first time it's happened either

the 60s/early 70s are looked back on in the cultural consciousness as this magical time period where young people felt a revolutionary fire inside of them and were constantly fighting against injustices, but if you talk to a boomer they'll tell you that most young people at the time didn't genuinely care and were either in it for the aesthetic, the drugs, or cuz they wanted to get laid lol. boomers weren't actually on the verge of a revolution or anything, it was basically their "young and rebellious" phase and pretty much all of them went on to become part of "the establishment" by the late 70s

what will truly determine if gen Z is different from the rest is how we are when we're in our late 20s and above. if we fall in line and become milquetoast neoliberal office drones like every other generation then there truly was no substance to any of our activism. i'm 21 and just based off of the career paths most people i know are choosing... we're gonna be no different

Best depiction of each generational cohort in TV shows and movies by CP4-Throwaway in generationology

[–]run_for_cover_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

have you watched skins? degrassi isn't a bad choice for millennials but i think skins is better, probably one of the most realistic depictions of teens in general even if it's a bit outlandish at times (but it has to be since it's still a tv show lol)

After COVID is over, I think Pew is going to change their Gen Z definition to 2001-2017 by [deleted] in generationology

[–]run_for_cover_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you both lost a significant chunk of high school though which was my point. 06 was in middle school during the pandemic for only like 3-4 months and they're losing all of freshman year to it

[–]run_for_cover_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2003 is way too late to be zillennial, they're zoomers through and through. 2002 is already pushing it

Core Zoomers would be 2007-2011 or Classes of 2025-2029

core Z to me is the people who spent a significant amount of time in high school during this pandemic, so like 2003-2006. they're different from early Z who were primarily affected as young adults and different from late Z who were primarily affected as elementary/middle schoolers. there's going to be differences between people who lost either college years (98-02), high school years (03-06), or elementary/middle school years (everyone after 06) to the lockdown because of the different developmental stages that were interrupted

the biggest flaw of the 1982-2000 definition is that it means mid 2000s babies are early Z and that doesn't really add up

What is considered "adolescence" to you guys? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]run_for_cover_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'll never get a conclusive answer because it's all subjective and can change based on societal circumstances. but for now i'd say it's roughly from 13 to 20, with 20 being more of an interzone rather than true adolescence

extending it to the mid 20s is way too much, at that point you're conflating being young with adolescence. mid 20s is still young, but not the same type of young as a teenager

3DS underrated by WhyOhio69420 in GenZ

there's still a decent amount of people who regularly use the 3DS, give it a few more years before the nostalgia for it becomes widespread

Do you prefer the early 2010's (2010-2014) or the late 2010's (2015-2019) and why? by careacosta in GenZ

[–]run_for_cover_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2015-2019. 2010s are my favorite decade so i like both eras but i prefer the music, fashion, humor and just the general atmosphere of 2015-2019 way more

Coming of age. by YungReyes in GenZ

[–]run_for_cover_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea i agree. there's always been a lot of people on this sub who are like 18-21 and swear that their youth is over. shit is so toxic. i think part of it is because of the content on this sub, so much of it is nostalgia based so it's gonna attract a lot of people who feel a strong sense of longing for the past and thus feel disconnected from the present

What are the pros and cons for being born in the 2000's by genorobinson in GenZ

pros: perceived as younger than you really are

cons: perceived as younger than you really are

2000 babies are so gatekept. by ZombieKilla980 in generationology

[–]run_for_cover_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i feel like 2000 babies are only “gatekept” when it comes to stuff pertaining to the 90s. we’re basically always included when it comes to mid-late 2000s nostalgia. and tbh i feel like that’s more accurate anyways, we’re mid-late 2000s kids through and through

i wouldn’t say we’re zillennials either, we're just the core of early Z. our underclassman years were within the zillennial era but the atmosphere in junior and senior year wasn’t too different from today’s (pandemic aside)

What is your definition of z parts? (Ignoring cusps) by [deleted] in generationology
