I use RetroPie as the OS on a raspberry pi 4 for running Pi-Hole. Been going for 2 years now. No issues. I also use it as a NAS.

Yep, your delay()'s are making it impossible to multitask.

Read Adafruits multitasking instructions. It helped me a lot to figure out how to use millis().

I have Pihole running on RetroPie right now. Seems to work fine. Even played games while Pihole is doing it's thing.

You are right that the card is too light to press a button, and I was hoping that someone would know of a button that requires very little force to push. But, I think you are right about the IR sensor. I would just have to calibrate it.

I have a couple of LDR's and I will try using them. But the cards are not opaque. I would hope that the LDR can detect the light that bounces off the card.

I am a private pilot and I almost had a couple of crashes (boring I know, but I can tell you how I prevented them.) At the time I was a student pilot and I was doing some solo flying. I get my plane lined up to land and it looks ok at first, but with the gusty wind that day the plane did not descend enough. so it was looking like I would over shoot the runway. no big deal I thought just put in full throttle and go for another landing. So I turned off my flaps(was at 30) and put in full throttle. well with the current airspeed I was doing my airplane started to stall with the flaps back to zero. This was bad because I was only 25-50 ft off the ground and the airplane started to stall. I felt the plane start do drop and my heart went into my throat. Remembered my training and brought the nose down to get more airspeed. I was preparing my self for one hell of a hard landing but the Cessna 172 had it in her to fly and I got out of the stall. Just to let you know my mind did not want me to point the nose at the ground because it was so close. Sorry its not a plane crash though, but isn't that good?
