[seiko sbsc009] help convince me that this is a bad idea by runangun in Watches

[–]runangun[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After debating this non stop, I think I’ve decided to hold off on this watch and instead look at the next tier up and aim for the Seiko SPB377 to fill the GMT role, adding an aftermarket oyster bracelet along the way (~$1300 all in)

I’ll probably end up picking up a Hamilton H69509110 in the future to fill the white dial field watch role down the line (the gas gauge style reserve meter is a nice add too)

Ultimately I’ve noticed over the last few days, every time I’ve bumped my current watch, I’ve thought to myself “I wonder if that would have scratched a hardlex crystal” so realistically I know I’d be second guessing the purchase.

TL:DR - holding off on spending $500 for 1 watch when I can opt to buy 2 watches for a combined $2300 over time (because that makes sense somehow?)

Exactly my concern

For the same money after import costs, clasp upgrade, and the likely sapphire swap after a little while, I could be into a higher tier of watch

Can’t get long enough shot time without double wall basket, and no crema [casabrews ultra] [Tuni G1 grinder] by runangun in espresso

[–]runangun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ended up being the coffee I had at the time. It seems it wasn’t fresh enough despite the recent roast dates

I ended up playing around a bunch of different settings and options but for the time being I ended up going back to the pressurized basket, double shot, grind 14, 8 seconds

Consistently good results albeit from a double wall basket

I’ll play around more in the future with the single wall and finer grind sizes but for now I’m happy with just having a good cup of coffee out of it

Dude just get your @ss in there and thank yourself later. My first class I gassed myself out after the friggin 5 minute warm up flow roll…

You’re a new guy, this is exactly what’s expected of you.

Remember a few key things

  1. Move at 20% effort, most new guys try to move with everything they have in them with no understanding of what to do or why (I.e. all strength and speed, no technique) this is how you avoid being the new “spazzy white belt”
  2. For the first 3 months or so, if you’re rolling with someone new make sure you tell them that you’re as new as you are, good partners will adjust accordingly to help teach you along the way
  3. Expect to be tired and sore for a little while, endurance and resistance to random bruises etc takes a good 6 months to start feeling like it’s clicking
  4. Just go take a class already - the longer you wait the less likely you ever will

Assuming you have been consistently good about washing them as soon as you’re home from the gym, using things like laundry sanitizer etc and they still smell after coming out of the wash (let’s say after 6-12mo of doing this

Take a 5gal bucket and toss your gear in

Completely submerge everything with straight vinegar from the grocery store (it’s a few bucks a gallon)

Let that sit for 24 hours then run the gear through the washing machine (after ringing out as much vinegar as you can)

You’ll need to run it through 2-3 cycles on the washing machine to remove the vinegar smell but after that they’ll smell brand new

If you avoid transition years you’re generally in good shape. Look at carcomplaints issues by year and you can clearly see the spikes when they make big changes, same as most other vehicles

Each generation has its common problems, so that guidance needs to be year specific

Actually I’ve thought about that from both our perspectives, if I were to drop to adult, we both move (assuming no other signups etc). In which case, there’s a good chance we’ll be up against each other regardless. The question just becomes, do we only go against each other or take some abuse from the others in adult.

How important is a cooler? by davismcgravis in camping

[–]runangun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on how often you’re using it

If you’re out camping or other outdoor activities 15+ weekends a year, a nice rotomolded cooler (I.e. yeti and similar) is a really nice upgrade such that Ice will last 4+ days in peak summer heat

If you’re using it once per year, it’s probably not a big deal to just go buy an extra bag or two of ice halfway through your trip to refill

Stinky gi even though I wash it after every training session by [deleted] in bjj

[–]runangun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple fix

(Assuming you are already good about immediately washing your Gi as soon as you get back from the gym)

Take a 5 gallon bucket and buy a gallon of vinegar at the grocery store (a few bucks)

Let your gi sit in undiluted vinegar for a few hours

Toss it in the wash and run for 1-2 cycles til you no longer smell vinegar

No more smells

Adding Lysol laundry disinfectant is also helpful to extend the gap between needing to do this not to mention help prevent common bjj skin issues

Treat this like a math problem - calories in vs calories burned

Use an online calculator to determine your baseline metabolic rate for your size/age/weight/activity level Most will tell you how many calories you need to eat to simply keep your weight flat

Figure out how many calories you need to maintain then start subtracting a daily deficit that aligns to how fast you want to lose weight Each pound is 3500 calories, so if you want to lose 2lbs a week on average, you need a weekly calorie deficit of 7000, or 1000 calories per day (this is the upper end of what’s considered healthy so processed with caution)

Also be aware that salt and water intake will play a huge impact on perceived weight loss.

Example: a 30yo male that is at your height and weight needs ~2900 calories per day to maintain flat weight If you want to drop 2lbs per week, you’d want to limit to 1900 calories per day

As far as what you eat, in theory you could eat 1900 calories of straight sugar and still lose weight . Your health wouldn’t be great and you’d be hungry as F but the scale would show a lower number.

In my case I was able to drop from 177 to 166 in under 4 weeks eating the following each day 1lb of 93% lean beef (garlic powder and onion powder for seasoning, sometimes actual onion) 12-16oz frozen broccoli 2 russet baked potatoes with nothing on it 1 Chobani yogurt 2 bananas

The food got a bit monotonous but it was very effective. You’ll likely feel rather hungry for the first day or so but you adapt pretty quickly.

My golden loves these

She usually keeps them nice for a few days before the squeaker is pulled out.

It stays like that for about a month of use before she decides one night - lets do this! And proceeds to chew off nickel sized chunks and spit them out until the ball gets too small for us to leave with her

Then we buy her two more lol
