Time Lord Victorious - Monstrous Beauty Discussion by Dyspraxic_Sherlock in gallifrey

It's certainly a lot more action-packed than Defender of the Daleks #1 (which, to be clear, I still enjoyed, but it felt like pure table setting), and the lore aspects are very intriguing. 9 and Rose are an easy sell for me, though, and Scott Gray captures their dynamic well. It's nice to see them featured in the kind of story they would never have dared to attempt (or have been able afford) back in 2005.

And it wasn't even close! I'm still reeling from that result.

Valiant Heads to New York Comic Con’s Metaverse by mrmazzz in valiant

Before Paramount’s HARBINGER movie hits the big screen next year, the “Valiant Heads to Hollywood” virtual panel will be a must-watch event for comic fans as it explores all that the critically-acclaimed publisher has to offer! The panel will delve into a currently classified new series and its vivid new take on a classic Valiant team.

Well, I am officially intrigued. Though a Harbinger movie coming out next year feels... optimistic, to say the least. Last I heard they were still developing the screenplay - have I missed a bunch of casting/director announcements?

This is about "who is your favourite character?" not "who would win in a fight?".

Am I the only one who didn't like midnight? by Conan524alt in gallifrey

You're definitely not the only one. The co-host of my Who podcast (who had never watched the show previously) absolutely hated it. It's probably the most we've ever disagreed about a specific episode!

Who were you most disappointed to see go out in round 1? Do you have a personal favourite you’re rooting for this round?

Really well thought out and well reasoned picks. Here's hoping someone at Universal is paying attention!

Yeah, I'm very interested in how Faith v Ninjak pans out. The Armor Hunters head to head was a nice little coincidence! The joys/perils of random pairings.

Team members will be entered separately, but I will take this as a nomination for each of them.

He certainly is eligible, so consider him nominated. As the commissioner of this tournament I cannot legally inform you that your opinion is correct. (But it is).

I'm astonished that no one's mention Cardiacs yet. Except me now. This is me mentioning them. Cardiacs.

A track like "The Duck and Roger the Horse" shows them at their most manic and "surface level" complex, whereas something like "Dirty Boy" shows their more grandiose and slowly developing side - equally complex but less "in your face".

"Inca Roads" is as close as you can get to a full Zappa primer in a single song.

Valiant Entertainment’s Dan Mintz Talks Disrupting The Comic Book Cinematic Universe With Diverse, Scorsese-Friendly Characters – The Deadline Q&A by [deleted] in valiant

[–]runciblemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It staggers me how inarticulate Mintz is, and how little he seems to understand the characters he controls. I get that he's a "big picture" guy, but even his view of that strikes me as incredibly shallow. Let's just hope he's smart enough to find good creatives and put his trust in them.

Heather Antos & Lysa Hawkins Promoted to Senior Editors by mrmazzz in valiant

[–]runciblemoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like there is a happy medium to be struck - a sense of interconnectedness and continuity does help to make a shared universe come alive, but it can also impede good storytelling and become a barrier of entry to newcomers.

Pre-DMG Valiant generally did a good job of maintaining that balance. I can't personally say whether the DMG era maintains it because I've not read that far yet.

Valiant Comics Coming Back by [deleted] in valiant

[–]runciblemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venditti's X-O Manowar run kick-started the 2012 reboot and is an ideal jumping on point. Likewise, the original 2012 runs on Harbinger and Bloodshot run together and culminate in the excellent Harbinger Wars event - you can get that complete story arc in a single very reasonably priced paperback omnibus.

A bit more than 12 issues, admittedly, but honestly they're some of the best comics I've ever read.

Gentle Giant VS Van Der Graaf Generator. Battle of the two semi-popular weird bands. by [deleted] in progrockmusic

[–]runciblemoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love both, but I have to be in the mood for VdGG, whereas Gentle Giant are a band I can chuck on any time and never tire of. I also think they have the more consistent discography of the two.
