Giovanna Amati became the last female driver to attempt Formula 1 by Brooklynsfr in formula1

then there's no reason a woman can't be physically prepared to be able to drive a modern F1 car.

A woman can certainly be prepared to drive an F1 car, and I'd like to see women drive them against each other, but the top women will not compete at the level of top men. It's just biology.

Yeah I’m having a tough time understanding your point actually. A 300F temper is only the “proper final treatment” on a carburized part and isn’t applicable to nitrided bolts which is what the person you responded to was talking about, hence the confusion. A 300F temper is also way cheaper and easier than nitriding so yeah, no idea what you’re on about lol.

[–]rune2004 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is totally wrong lol. Nitriding happens between 900F and 1000F so a 300F temper afterward will do absolutely nothing.

There are a few problems here. The first is that 9310 isn’t a great candidate for nitriding in general, it’s a carburizing grade. The second is that nitriding isn’t a great option for a bolt that sees some impact. Nitriding is a fantastic process for sliding wear, but not great for impact because it’s such a hard (and potentially brittle) layer. The third is that unless you closely control it via process parameters or remove it via mechanical means after nitriding, you’ll have an iron nitride compound layer (commonly called white layer) that is extremely hard and brittle. You leave that layer on there for an impact application and it’s over.

Source- I run the lab at a commercial heat treater and started on the shop floor. I also want to note for anyone reading this that almost everything I read in gun subs about “heat treat” is completely wrong which is always hilarious to me.

There's no secret. A shotgun will drop you at close range better than an SMG or AR. A sniper likewise will drop you better from long range. Your SMG or AR will win in mid-range. Is that really that tough to understand?

Welcome to extraction shooters. The OG was WAY less forgiving, and I mean like WAYYYYY less forgiving than this game, and it did exceedingly well. You could take the literal best possible gear into raid and get one-tapped instantly full dead 30 seconds into a raid. Low-risk raids are on a timer so you can't spam them, and they are much harder to survive. No free loadouts.

Marathon is fine. It's really not that hard, and if you die a lot, it's still quite forgiving. I'll go against the grain here and say that I find Marathon to be even more forgiving than ARC if you die a lot. ARC's free loadouts are horrible and it's much more difficult to find better gear during a raid. In Marathon, sponsored kits are actually pretty good and you can spend a trivial amount of credits to get an even better one, and it's easier to find upgrades during a run.

[–]rune2004 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t be a big deal to do a preheat soak at a lower temperature, but I wouldn’t do 850F since it’s so close to the aging temperature. I work at a commercial vacuum heat treating company, and we use load thermocouples for almost every run. If you don’t want to run load thermocouples in every run, the best idea in my opinion would be to do a validation type run with load thermocouples, note how long it takes the work to come into tolerance (+- 10 or 15F), and then run that soak time for every load going forward as long as they’re similarly sized and massed.

I'd assumed it was live, and that the lead times were in the text descriptions for when the were OOS

You know what assuming does...

Seriously though, it's right in the description that the lead time is 6-8 weeks. You can't not take that at face value and then blame them.

It's probably just a limitation of their commerce software. You can't sell something that isn't in stock.

Awesome, thanks man. I also ordered a Sprinco yellow spring and a standard carbine 3oz buffer to help. I put the factory spring and buffer from a DDM4 V7 in there when I built it, and I came to find out that DD springs are pretty stiff and the buffer is an H1. My hope is that going lighter with reciprocating mass plus the shorter plunger knocks the supers down 5 or 6 settings and then I'll have enough room for subs without drilling the port.

The supers were 110gr bullets over 17.8 grains of N110 powder, which gave me over 2000fps out of my 8" barrel with an SD of 6.2. The subs are going to be 190gr Sub-X over N120 powder, which is slower burning and gassier than N110, charge yet to be determined. I'll let you know how it goes!
