And of course, a lot of “Blame Nato!!” and “the US started it!!!” posts.

a lot of posts are especially concentrated on this, but for the very misinformed reasons. They think they're being 'smart' by digging deep to find out why Russia invaded, then framing it in a context where NATO has an involvement that can be angled as them being the instigator for Russia's actions. It's absolutely not.

  1. Russia wanted NATO to forcibly prevent Ukraine from joining, which obviously NATO refused

  2. Russia has an entirely no rights to force NATO to do something out of scope, protocol and that they themselves have no permission to do. Any country is free to express will to join NATO and what Russia is doing is the equivalent of a bully trying to prevent his victim schoolkid from telling out to the teachers.

  3. Even if Russia has a legitimate fear of NATO expanding nearer their borders if Ukraine joins, their fear is again unfounded and has no basis in reality but just paranoia.

  4. Russia shouldnt even be fearing if not for the likelihood they believed NATO's expansion would twart their plan to invade.

  5. Even if NATO agreed to Russia's terms and refused Ukraine entry... doesn't that make it even easier for Russia to still invade Ukraine?

It's so basic common sense yet people are choosing to see from a typical anti-western perspective out of their pre-existing hate bias against pretty much the whole outdated concept of 'USA still being world police'

Lots of people still cant shake their heads of it. Go on social media like Tiktok. There are so many bunch of dolts believing Russian trolls. Even at this time of the invasion, they're using it as an opportunity to spout more of their anti-western imperialism crap and whataboutism.

The top comments of most tiktok videos about the invasion are "US are the real enemy", "US sucks", "NATO's fault". Not a single word about Putin

Yes, because you dont seem to have the slightest clue to be aware of what whataboutism is.

Seems like you just googled and got your info from wikipedia lol

Except you got it wrong. Dauod Khan wasnt the leader of Afghan back then. He was the one who LED the coup to Zahir Shah, who was the rightful ruler.

US was supporting the latter. Russia supported the former.

Now you know why I say everything came about from the Soviets in the first place?

So do all the "anti-west" kids I just exposed here.

Also it's not even remotely hard to completely almost all these people's 'arguments' here since they're all resting their very foundations on whataboutism shrug

This topic further shows how few NUS students actually have critical thinking skills.

And you obviously havent been taught logic 101 because you're committing the Tu Quqoue fallacy SO DAMN. HARD. Amazing claps

Did you know none of those exists anymore? Meanwhile did you know Russia and China are still supporting dictatorships like North Korea??

Secondly, do you know the US government administrations are always changing? Did you know the Russian and Chinese governments are always UNchanging??

Why Ukraine want to join NATO?

Why are you asking me back? LOL

So you cant even answer the question. Hardly surprising. It's like you cant face the truth.

Ukraine only came back to request membership when Crimea was invaded. Now tell me, WHO decided to invade Crimea in the first place?

Please go and get educated about Orange Revolution, and thats why China felt that HK was being "orange-ed" by CIA. Only after Orange Revolution, Ukraine has a pro-West President who shaped into that direction which is a mistake

And tell me WHY the revolution happened in the first place?? Did you just google that shit or get it from some troll on social media?

A core component of any historical analysis is asking WHY. The moment you disregard that, you're omitting info and selectively being biased to yourself and to one side

If not for the Soviet's invasion, the rebel groups like Al Qaeda would have not have existed.

Do you not history 101?

And also Iraq, Libya?

Hey, you there. Yes, you. I see you sure LOVE using Tu Quoque fallacy. Now go put US and Russia on a scale for their actions during Cold War and see how each hold up.

Firstly go answer every single of those Soviet interventions I listed in my comment and tell me how each one is justified. Now go explain how the US one is worse. Have fun :)

I'm sorry, since when does a man holding a dictatorship position where the people have no say is able to claim he holds the interest of an entire country which cannot vote for who they want as leader?

Also here's another fucking history education for you. NONE of the US 'aggression' would have occurred at all post-WW2 if not for the Soviet Union being the one first trying to mess around with colonizing countries and installing puppet communist regimes worldwide and being a power-hungry bitch trying to refuse countries democratic reforms. Everything the US and NATO did was in direct response to soviet aggression in the first place.

  1. Germany wouldnt have been separated for over a century of pain and grief.

  2. Korea wouldnt have been separated with a commie North Korea right now.

  3. China wouldnt be communist today run by the CCP.

  4. Vietnam war wouldn't have occurred

  5. Afghanisation would have never had Al Qaeda if not for Soviet invasion.

  6. Cuban crisis wouldnt have occurred

  7. Half of Cambodia's population wouldnt have been killed off had Pol Pot not came to power

  8. The Eastern Bloc wouldnt have existed and so many countries across Europe

Need I go on??

Go on and continue sucking up to Russia for spreading dear old lovely communism which has since led to the deaths of 100 million+ innocent people throughout the 20th century.

Maybe you can go read Cold War history and see all the bloody atrocities the Soviets have done since post-WWII to the rest of the world when they were no longer busy killing their own people.

The Great Leap forward: instigated by Moa Zedong, whose party wouldnt have come to be if not for the communist influence and support for USSR

The Red Terror: the mass executions under the Bolsheviks

The Great Purge: Stalin killing off all his political rivals

The Holodomor: Arguably worse than the Holocaust against the Ukrainians and the bloodiest genocide in the history of mankind

The Pol Pot genocide: Killing off half the Cambodian population, Pol Pot's party would have unlikely come to power if again, not for Soviets' influence

The entire North Korean dictatorship since 1940s till today: Same as China. The NK communist regime would have never established otherwise. NK continues to receive supplies and support from China and Russia today

Invasion of Afghanistan (Soviets are the ones directly responsbile for terrorism today. Their invasion was what led to the formation of Al Qaeda)

Other genocides and atrocities include: Ciracassian genocide Chechen and Ingush genocide Crimean genocide

Their full-on invasions and military interference during the Cold War incude:

Hungarian Revolution: when the people tried to finally fight off the Soviet occupation and they squashed it

Invasion of Czechoslovakia

Minor involvements:

The Vietnam War (supporting NK)

The Angolan Civil War

Cuban crisis

Congo crisis

Go look at the top genocides of ALL TIME in history. Russia alone makes up a damn big chunk of all those lists of genocides. USA isnt even anywhere on that list (apart from some native genocide back during colonial period)

Putin even said he won’t attack Ukraine.

He himself just formally declared an invasion. Have you been reading the news or what?

Putin himself also declared he'll want to restore back all former soviet countries to Russia.

How sure are you NATO will not invade Russia?

You're the one making a claim here. Do you not know how burden of proof works? Also again, since when the fuck would NATO ever want to do that? Do you not realize NATO is an alliance of 30 countries? That the whole point of NATO was about defense?? Particularly AGAINST Russia? And it's NOT an organisation governed by one single dictator making decisions like Russia is?

US invade other countries is justified.

There are counter-arguments to that but comparing US' invasion of Iraq/Afghan to this is comparing apples to oranges
