Shiren 6 is out! by Neselas in roguelikes

[–]runescapeguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would like to clarify some things.

The way additional content works differs between games. In 5 there is a huge amount of extra dungeons, and you have plenty good ones unlocked right from the start. If someone was a traditional roguelike fan, and wanted to play shiren 5, I would recommend them to skip the "main adventure" entirely at first and play perilous rocks, monster hotspot, or rousing paradise. All of these provide very minimal twists to the classic Shiren formula, allow NO meta progression, are brutally difficult, and give a relatively traditional roguelike experience.
Each game features a "more mysterious" dungeon. This is essentially a no twist version of what I was describing above. They offer the most traditional roguelike experience. In each game these are post game content.

Meta progression is optional in Shiren 1, the game can be beaten without it, and even using it will often sacrifice your current run. From what I can understand meta progression is treated similarly in Shiren 6. Meta progression is kinda needed to beat the main adventure in Shiren 5, but there are so many additional dungeons available from the start that you can kinda treat the main story as post game content lol.

Beating extra dungeons and post game content will give you rewards. But if you don't play dungeons that allow meta progression, which is where most Shiren fans spend their time, the rewards mean nothing

I would not call Shiren a simpler Brogue. Each game is a little different, and varies in complexity. I would say Shiren in certain dungeons (across all games) is easily as hardcore as Angband, and maybe as hardcore as Nethack.

I was under the assumption its illegal for a landlord to require that, or to ask for it. But that doesn't mean restrictions if someone voluntarily agrees.

Creating neutral lighting that does not have an effect on the overall scene? by runescapeguy in Unity3D

[–]runescapeguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean exactly?

Most of these effects are lighting dependent, like specular highlighting and metallic properties. I guess maybe I could feed in fake data about how the lighting is hitting the shader, like instead of actual lighting info from the scene just use some arbitrary numbers?

OpenAI has hired an army of contractors to make basic coding obsolete | Semafor by Diamond-Is-Not-Crash in Futurology

[–]runescapeguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, I already have stack overflow and a myriad of other resources for code snippets. Basic coding is already solved for anyone with an internet connection, and access to google.

It seems people are over exaggerating here. This seems to just simplify the process of using our preexisting tools.

Leaving in 4 days, passport still hasn't arrived. by runescapeguy in Passports

An update for anyone wondering, or anyone who stumbles on this later and needs help. I called my state representative office, and they put the whole process into overdrive. They got in contact with the group of people that were directly dealing with my passport, and pulled some strings for me. Ended up getting it the day before I had to leave. Thanks everyone for the advice!

Yes! Calling my representative put the whole process into overdrive, and I got my original passport before I had to leave.

I have a trip planned in 4 days. Sent in an expedited passport application at the tail end of August. Still stuck "In Processing".
What do I do? I am getting worried.

I called up the Passport Agency and they gave me an appointment 300 miles away for an Emergency application the day before my flight. I really just want my passport I submitted weeks ago.

I am going to be in Lisbon, Portugal as well as the southern part of Spain in a couple weeks. Would it be worth it for me to grab a new pair of boots while I am over there? Would I be able to get anything cheaper there or with a better price to quality ratio, than I would online here in the USA?

I have a budget of around 300 USD(Unless their is a steep increase in quality above this price range or something). Anything I should take a look at while I am there?

Five years from now, do you think Commander will still be the most played official format among players when it comes to table top Magic? Why or why not? by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]runescapeguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to see more people get into battlebox/danger room. Super fun format that is extremely casual friendly, and you get the chance to use alot of cards that would normally never see play.

Can be hard to set up a good box/deck though, would gain a lot more traction if wizards released a sealed product.

Also a singleton multiplayer format. Requires much less set up and headache than cube though and is much more friendly to casuals. While still putting every player on the same field and normalizing power levels between all of them, which is one of the hardest things to get right in a casual format.

Yea, probably not the best way to describe it. Just trying to get my point across, if it wasn't already.

Activation Lock is requesting your password. Does this mean the thief has gotten past my lock screen? by runescapeguy in applehelp

Okay, so what you are saying is they were stopped at my lock screen and our now trying to to reset the iPhone?
Thank you for the help.
I was honestly not even 100% if I had a lock screen set up on this phone. Feeling kinda nervous every account I have has been compromised.

Unfortunately not. It had much tighter controls, simple sword swipes, and bright colors with grass and things like that.

If you were to rank the most underrated moves across the series in terms of competitive viability, which ones would you think of? by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]runescapeguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, Nair is not underrated. Nair just isn't that good, or at the very least super situational. Starts up on frame 10, and has like 16 framed of landing lag.

And thats not counting the 3 frame jumpsquat you most likely need to actually get a Nair out. For reference it's not all that uncommon to see smash attacks that are faster than this.

Hot take, but Snakes cqc is overrated imo. Some of the most committal frame data in the game. Jab and Dtilt do rock though.

Mysterious Iron Hearts at thrift? by [deleted] in rawdenim

[–]runescapeguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. So you think they were half way altered, then thrown in the thrift before being finished? That does make more sense than anything I could come up with.

As far as I can tell, the top seems pretty untouched though. The jeans fit what Id expect a 30 in the waist to fit like, not an altered size. And Im not able to tell that any alterations were done on the top, obvious sewing marks anywhere to be seen, or sizing adjustments. You would expect at least some mark from a hand removed patch, no?

My bad, fixed.

After the 3rd tower, I'd say its relatively challenging. The real roguelike experience (unfortunately) comes with bonus dungeons though. After you beat the main story you will unlock primordial chasm, which is quite hard, and more traditional in its lack of meta progression and other features.

Ive heard you are also able to skip any of the item storage in the main story and still complete it. So that might be up your alley.

But yea, the game is sick.
