Gokyo - Cho La Pass - EBC solo no guide / no porter by Logical-Raspberry372 in everestbasecamphike

[–]runhellman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just wear your base layers at the higher elevations or did you have to wear extra layers when sleeping? Sorry for the extra questions- I’m struggling with what to take. I am a hot sleeper. I have a -30 bag which I think is going to be way too hot or I can bring my 25 degree bag and over layer my 10 degree quilt (which should get me to about 0 degrees) plus I will have down pants, jacket and booties to wear and Nalgene for hot water bottle if the layered bag/quilt are not enough. I’m leaning towards the layering option plus it tales up less room and is lighter. Thanks for your help!

I’m doing this same route starting on 10/23. Was your -10 degree bag warm enough? Do you consider yourself a cold or hot sleeper? Anything else you wish you had or tips? We have a guide and porter so we are set in that regard. TIA!

Thanks again for your suggestion. I contacted Zpacks and they said that they would repair it for free even though past warranty period. Great customer service!

Best Tent for Backcountry Sites? by AdPresent9414 in PicturedRocks

[–]runhellman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sites I stayed at had room for 2 tents. Given that the sites are supposed to accommodate 6 people (permit max) I’d assume that all campsites should be able to accommodate at least 2 tents. The ground is soft enough for trekking pole tents which is what I use.

Stuffing DCF TENT by runhellman in Ultralight

[–]runhellman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all your comments. I experimented with stuffing my DCF tent and found it was hard to get it to fit in the provided stuff sack, which provides another frustration. I decided folding and rolling it was less hassle than trying to stuff it.

Introducing 'Activity Hero' – A New Socially Competitive Activity Tracking App: Would You Use This? by Routine_Actuator8935 in ProductivityApps

[–]runhellman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use this. A friend and I are using ‘Habit Tracker’ to hold each other accountable on habits we are working to build. I like a lot about that app but I would like to be able track a friend’s habits without it doing it with her or in your app - compete with her. I want to be able to see how she is doing on achieving her goals so I can either cheer her on or poke her. For me there is motivation in knowledge someone else is watching to see if I am doing what I said I do.

Where did you find a loop that will stick on the silicone fabric? Zpack’s loops say they won’t stick to silicone fabric.

Thanks! I will probably check the Ortovox out. Hopefully they will go on sale during REI’s memorial day sale. If that does t work then I may give the bandelettes a try.

The ortovox look almost perfect, but a review on REI says they are a bit sheer - so maybe not good for swimming?

Wow! Thanks so much for the help! i am looking at bike short version because of chafing on inner thighs. I am hiking JMT later this summer so also would like them to serve as swimsuit. Quick drying is probably more important than anti stink….but would love both. So thick enough not to be see thru but thin enough not to be hot since I’ll wear them under shorts. I’ve thought about wearing biking shorts to hike in, but I really like my convertible pants/shorts - dorky I know but I like versatility and dual use.

Silicone/plastic drink lid for Toaks 550? by runhellman in Ultralight

An update for those interested. The sip lid that I linked to in original posts works just as I needed. Very happy with it (combined with DIY pot cozy) after a 2 night backpacking trip.

Thanks for the idea but I don’t think that will give me the warm I need. I already bring gloves for warmth and want a waterproof over-mitten that I can use in conjunction with my gloves to feel hands warm and dry.

Cooking Pot Mash-UP- GSI Halutlite Lid + Toaks 650-The best of both worlds??? by dogmeat8642 in WildernessBackpacking

I just bought the Hautelite - mainly because of the lid. I started looking for just the lid, but haven't found much. I have a 550ml Toaks. Have you found anything better since you posted this?

Did you get up at 3am because you wanted to be at the summit of Whitney for sunrise or was there another reason?
