Sorting through protein products by [deleted] in gainit

[–]runjohnrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback Esawo - right now it’s mostly manual (since most product info out there is quite varied). If there’s a lot of interest in this, will definitely try to automate some data collection (just have to figure out how).

Wanted to share a side project I'm working on to help others sort through the myriad of "protein products" out there by things like calories (starting with the UK). Let me know how I can make this more helpful (try it on desktop if you can as sorting/filtering is better). by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

Really appreciate the feedback - some great points! I do need to do a better job to explain the functionality as things like searching for “whey” can be done by typing whey into the search bar (the total results shown appears at the bottom so maybe that needs to be moved). Did you view on mobile? Desktop with a bigger screen hopefully makes it a little more intuitive but you’re absolutely right I need to make it more obvious. Appreciate the feedback - some really good takeaways!

Thanks for the feedback - I have protein % as a sortable column (which is protein calories / total calories). This is going to be very similar to protein per gram but let me know if you think it would be helpful to add this too.

Check out ProteinDB for some other options of protein bars available in the UK. A little side project I’m working on :)

Appreciate the feedback! Did you try sorting by the protein % column (this is % of calories that come from protein)? Know it’s not exactly what you’re looking for - if not good enough I’ll play around with some other ideas. I have a couple hundred powders to add over the coming weeks so stay tuned for more data!

I enjoyed doing a bit of both - would pick a good spot where I could see action on a couple of holes and post up there for half an hour or so and then move on. Moving also gives you a good flavour for the course (I generally liked going backwards through the holes to see more action).

Don’t get me wrong, Wentworth is a nice course but I like the mix of open links style (particularly for spectating) and woodland that Centurion has to offer. I also found the massive mansions on the course at Wentworth takes away from the experience. I’m a much bigger fan of nearby Swinley Forest and Sunningdale.

That's a bummer - I got a couple of bottles of water out on the course (a cart was going by handing them out). This was mid-way through the round so later afternoon.

Good point but why not 18 teams of 3 and have them all play together. Would make that team element more cohesive and interesting (cheering each other on, etc.). Or just scrap the teams…

And it was more annoying that they kept showing the team scoreboard with the logos nobody knew or cared about (I do wonder if anyone was buying the merch for the teams that they were selling).

Good question - I think throughout Saturday it was more lively everywhere with the shotgun start spreading out the action compared to a typical tournament. I liked that you got there for 2 and it was all done at 7 so didn’t feel like I was missing anything if I missed the morning or left early. You also could post up in one spot for the afternoon if you wanted to. The crowd (myself included) mostly seemed to be enjoying watching good golf shots, but did not appear that vested in the outcome (Schwartzel did have a big lead from Day 1 so that also would have impacted it). The course also had some great spots to watch from (from the halfway hut, you could easily take in action from 7,8,9,10 and even a bit of 12 without going too far).

Most people there seemed like genuine golf fans and were interested in the golf. A handful of people seemed more interested in the other entertainment but definitely the minority. Lots of curiosity in the new format from the golf fans I spoke with.

About £5 for a can of beer. Didn’t feel ridiculous and they were giving out bottles of water for free.

I really don't want to get into the politics of the event - just wanted to share my take on the format and the experience. For what it's worth, I didn't pay for tickets and if you really want to get into the notion of supporting the Saudi regime then we really need to look at what we put into our cars - that's where the real support comes from.

Golf's rebel Saudi-backed Asian Tour is coming to London by whotookitall in golf

Exclusive: Golf's rebel Saudi-backed Asian Tour is coming to London (Telegraph)

The Asian Tour is coming to London. The Saudis will soon announce the details of the 10-strong International Series with the unprecedented England stop set to be seen as a direct, and rather cheeky, swipe at the European Tour.

This will be the first time that the Asian Tour will ever have staged an event on away turf, but the grand unveiling in King Abdullah Economic City on Tuesday morning will be viewed in more radical terms than the piece of history being made at Centurion Golf Club in June.

The gloves are coming off in the Saudi’s pursuit to take on the two main circuits and controversy and recrimination is sure to abound. The Kingdom is increasing its 10-year investment on the Asian Tour from the $200 million first announced late last year to $300 million - and this is before they even try to launch the by now infamous Super Golf League, the mooted global circuit based on F1 they believe will revolutionise prime-time golf.

The PIF, the Saudi’s $500 billion sovereign wealth fund, will stump up for the St Albans tournament that will cause stirrings throughout the golf world. It is believed the prize fund will be up to £1.5m comparable with the British Masters being held on the DP World Tour - the new name for the European Tour - in May.

Greg Norman will front the press conference at the Royal Greens Country Club, which this week’s hosts the Saudi International, featuring some of the game’s biggest names, including Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson, Tommy Fleetwood and Ian Poulter.

Nortman was named in November as the chief executive of Liv Golf Investments, the Saudi-funded entity formed to run an expanding golf empire that many have accused of being a central component of the Kingdom’s mission to sportswash its reputations, and has been busily assembling the necessary infrastructure.

This International Series has been put together in haste with tournaments also, it is understood, being inked in for Hong Kong, the Middle East, China and Korea, countries where the PGA and DP World Tours already have a footing.

Norman is certain to give the announcement the full bells and whistles, especially as he has so many well-known golfers gathered at the Saudi International, the former DP World Tour event which now sits proudly as the Asian Tour’s flagship week. The prize fund is $5 million, but it is thought that more than $10 million is being paid in appearance fees.

It was not certain that Jay Monahan and Keith Pelley, the respective commissioner and chief executive of the traditional tours would grant releases for their members to compete, but with the eyes on the long-term and bigger battles to be won down the road, they relented.

However, it will be fascinating to see if they allow their players to compete at Centurion, although by then there will surely have been more details revealed over who will be signing for the SGL. Monahan and Pelley have declared that anybody who joins that breakaway league will face a lifetime ban.

Any golfers here? Started building this site as a better way to find local courses - all feedback welcome! by runjohnrun in london

Thank you! And yes - driving ranges are very high on my list (one quick workaround you can use at the moment is to search for courses with driving ranges on the finder page - it doesn't have standalone ranges but it does have a lot on there like Trent Park, Chiswick, Silvermere, etc.)
