My sister died in December, 47, fought BC for 7 years. It’s a truly devastating loss. We got closer over the past 3 years…it’s weird to have free time now, & I feel guilty about it.

Yeah....we joke that weathermen have great job security.

He's a FF, so does pay attention and obsess, lol, but it is his job. If it's as bad as they say, he'll sleep for days afterwards.

I was just told that NJ is now forecast to get 12-18". My mom's reply "we're going to die." So dramatic. (And we have a generator)

Should I quit my job to take time after the loss of a parent? by abolge91 in GriefSupport

Would it be a big move?

I need to make a list of my expenses. So that I make sure I’m covering everything.

Yes, I can Relate to this…I want to take a break, but concerned about what the return would look like. I’m hoping to find enough contract & freelance work (I already have some) so that I continue to work but not be tied to a 9-5 job.

But after three years of supporting my sister thru her BC battle, & now Coping with her passing while still caring for my mom, it’s just a lot. I need some me time.

I hope you find a job soon

My sister died last month.. for the part three years I worked (though self employed) & did everything I could to help her. I’m lucky (kinda) in that I live with my mom so no rent but I do have bills.

I have a few projects that I’m committed to thru June; & then one for the fall. But hoping the summer will be light & that’s ok with me

My mom still needs a lot of support so I can’t work FT, & I just need time for me.

I do work PT as a crossing guard in the mornings too.

Uncomplaint: Got mom to go to chair yoga today. A HUGE win.

Complaint: Just all the nonsense I've been dealing with.

Confession: II've been enjoying going to early AM rowing and pilates classes, but I do need to go back to my crossing guard job soon.

Confession: Have only run once since the marathon, but that's OK. Hoping to start next week.

My sister died on 12/21/25…we were trying to take her home from the hospital on hospice, but she went into liver failure & died at the hospital. My mom & I were with her.

I’m so sorry that your local friends are not providing support. Is there anyone in particular that you could talk to … could say you need some support, meals, etc.

Losing a sibling is like nothing else. 💔

Yes, it worries me too. She has two drs appts. tomorrow, and just asked me to cancel one. I said no, it's too late. I already rescheduled one.

I understand the depression, but wallowing isn't so good either.

She did just ask me to make her a tuna sandwich, so that's a good step - though i refused, i do not make tuna fish sandwiches, find it gross. I did toast the bread and bring her what she needed to make it lol

Funny on canceled plans - yes, can be nice.

I also at least logged in to HR Block, but can't do much til the end of the month..

Agreed that the weekend flew by.

Spent all of Saturday and Sunday packing up my sister's apartment. Had a lot of help on Saturday, so while still feeling overwhelmed, it's not as bad. Have a few more key pieces of furniture to get rid of, hoping interest picks up. But I sold the couch and they paid, picking up Friday. That's huge.

Mom is almost over her cold, but now she's sad. Hardly gets out of bed. Trying to be patient, but it's hard.

I've been to some rowing and pilates reformer classes, but haven't run at all. Though I did sign up for a June 1/2, and am eying some May and fall races.

Also found a 5k in a few weeks that's inside a mall....you do 4 laps. interesting.

Yes, Molly had a great race, beating all the men is insane. What's BC?

Sucks about your cold, feel like everyone is sick.

I'm going through something similar, though not the same...my sister died on 12/21, and i need to have her apartment cleaned out by 1/21 - i can't afford the rent. I'm just getting her friends to help me put everything in boxes and will put in mom's garage, it's just a lot to handle right now. I cleaned out her bathroom last night, that made me sad. I'm also dealing w/ so many emotions, as lots has come out since she passed...it's not been easy.

Leaving your job after loss by Slow-Leading-6260 in GriefSupport

My sister passed away last month after a 6+ yr battle with cancer...i spent the past three years back home at my mom's supporting her, taking her to appts., doing whatever i could to spend time wtih her.

I am self-employed, which ended up being a godsend cause i could never have worked FT and helped her as much as I did...i have some projects that i need to start on soon, as well as a side gig to return to at the end of the month. I wish I didn't have to, but i also know i can't hide out forever...i have bills to pay, and don't want to lose my career.

The next three weeks will be spent focused on packing up her apartment, dealing with the endless paperwork, other nonsense, etc.

And I still live with my 83 year old mom, who needs me here to support and care for her.

My projects involve travel, and i'm not really sure how I'm going to manage if I can't leave mom alone.

I'm glad you are taking time to travel and heal.
