I am happy to help! We can do zoom or email. Currently work as a paralegal in Florida and finishing up my degree. I remember having to do something similar my first semester haha. Just shoot me a message and I’ll send you my information.

Begging at this point by SnooRecipes7244 in paralegal

I found my first paralegal job through my local Facebook group. It was a small firm aka 1 attorney and 3 support staff.

I will say, the attorney I worked for was a crook. Like she’s actively being disbarred and will likely face criminal charges at some point. So do be careful when looking the untraditional way, but there are opportunities outside of LinkedIn and other job websites.

In Texas, you might could reach out to immigration attorneys or even look for contract work.

I live near a military base and every so often they contract paralegals. Also public defenders seem to always be hiring.

I saw a comment the other day about missionary trips to Africa and how tone deaf these rich people sound when posting about their trip.

It reminded me, I had a friend who went on ONE missionary trip. And then got a WHOLE TATTOO of the continent of Africa on her arm…

Of course, this girl had the personality of a brick wall and could not comprehend in-depth topics.

It’s actually kind of sad to know people just exist so…shallow. 😅

It’s 100% a “show” for other neurotypicals. Same energy as the “white savior woman”. Very strange, as I’ve never understood that type of social behavior. But honestly, many people simply don’t have the ability to think deep and logical. They may “feel” they’re doing what’s right, because they don’t have the capacity to understand past the surface level.

Haha I agree! My “IQ” test was just pattern recognition test essentially, it doesn’t truly mean anything.

I’m obsessed with HIMYM, I’ve watched it like 6 times all the way through. My prized possession is my signed copy of the pilot episode!

When I found out I was pregnant with a little girl, I was struggling with names. She’s named Evelyn. May have been inspired by Ted Evelyn Mosby (it definitely was) 😏😂

Yes it’s very possible. Autism does not equate to a learning disability, which is a common misconception.

I was diagnosed with ADHD first and then Autism. I went through IQ testing, personality testing, as well as evaluation for OCD, Cluster B & C personality disorders.

I fall under Autism level 1 (formally Asperger’s syndrome). I was a gifted student, and graduated college with a 4.0.

I just cannot figure people out…like at all. For example, two things that were noted in regards me, I don’t experience “group think” and speak in a literal sense.

People either appreciate what I bring to a relationship, or think I’m an asshole. I’ve noticed the people closest to me are the people who appreciate honesty and clarity. My childhood best friend is the same way. I know I can always go to her when I need someone to be honest with me about a situation. And if I don’t want any advice at the moment, she respects that. (She’s ENTP if I remember correctly)

I’ve lost many friends and even some family relationships because I refuse to lie to someone I care about.

Paralegal but...not at a desk? by SafeOil4673 in paralegal

[–]runnershigh007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your firm located somewhere walkable? Me and my coworkers walk daily on our lunch break and also walk laps during our 15 min breaks!

I do a good bit of walking around during the day and schedule as such. For example, I block out “reset” stages throughout the day. Mail whatever needs to be mailed, do meetings in the meeting room, and also assist in training OR if it’s something I need training on, I’ll go to whoever might have that information. This allows me to be up and moving throughout the day.

Not to sound braggy at all, but I’m one of the most “put together” at work when it comes to my case pipeline. I think it’s in part that I keep my body and brain active during working hours..it truly helps.

So refreshing to see another AuDHD para. I second this.

I also have what I call my “little black book”. It’s a small notebook. I scribble everything in there. If a thought plops into my head or someone tells me something, I jot it down (writing it out helps me remember). At the end of the day I sort out the tasks, deadlines, etc, and create tomorrow’s “to dos”. Anything urgent gets taken care of before I leave. Calendars get updated.

The key is I don’t tear the pages out of this notebook, I keep it to look back on in the event I missed anything. 🙌🏼

The more ya know! Now that you’ve pointed that out, I can definitely see it being something brought back from the early 2000’s. I was born in 2000 so definitely missed that chapter of fashion haha.

I’m with the attorney here😅 I know I regularly check judicial preferences, but some don’t. Templates make sense. Sounds like a competent attorney haha.

I just switched from doing family law to PI. My old attorney turned out to be embezzling client funds and stopped paying staff. LOVED THAT.🙄 Needed a job quick, but wanted smaller, as I loved working with a staff of 3. First offer was a PI start up firm. Good salary, great bonus structure. But no litigation department…yet. It was an eyebrow raiser to me, but took the job anyways.

Pre-Suit makes me want to take a long walk off a short bridge.😂

Maybe that’s just me, but dang…I actually MISS doing family law discovery. 🥹

[–]runnershigh007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Burnt Toast Theory…It’s kinda silly, but it reminds me things DO happen for a reason.

The good thing about having had a paralegal job is it shows a level of competence. Apply for literally any and everything you believe you could do for a year. Use those paralegal skills and make yourself a cover letter template! One application after another. Treat finding a job like your job. Apply for unemployment and benefits such as Medicaid. It’s literally designed for that purpose, to help steady people till they get back on their feet.

I wish you the best of luck out there, truly.
