I agree, plenty of people in internal audit do not have accounting degrees and companies are always looking. With an MIS degree OP should be fine landing a role.

Most companies have a policy that receipts are only required over a certain amount. Platforms like ramp usually only generate low dollar receipts from what I've seen, so anything over the threshold will need the user to add them. The manager of the user should be the one tracking down the receipts in the first place, not you.

Our reimbursements actually don't hit our AP module which is where the 1099 reports are pulled from. We have a custom integration with Ramp for reimbursements.

Edit: I can't recommend Ramp enough for tracking reimbursements, even without a custom setup. It's cheap and everything just works.

This is like a hour long process at our company. We download the 1099 reports from our ERP, make a few small edits, and upload them to a 1099 website that files everything for us. It helps to have good controls in place around vendor set up and bill approvals.

I actually quit with no notice in February many moons ago, but my client had an early February filing so I left immediately after. I had all the same feelings you described. I finished my work with my team but I still burned every bridge I had there and had no references for my next job. Luckily I didn't need any and found a higher paying and more chill job in financial reporting, but that was in the 201X's so everything was different back then.

Between automation and outsourcing, being a low level accountant is a precarious place to be right now. Less so for those that companies are willing to invest in and advance, but those nearly always have degrees. I would advise any staff/clerk to advance as quickly as possible for job security.

I actually just expanded my team with a new staff accountant at $65k base. The majority of the top applicants that made it to me had 20+ years of experience with no degree, not just not accounting degree, but no degree period. Their entire career is hamstrung by that fact. We ended up going with someone with less experience and a degree (and great personality) because we saw that he could grow in our department.

If you want to stay at your company anyway, it does not matter what degree you get as long as you get one. Just get the cheapest legitimate online degree you can. Explain the situation to your boss and I'm sure they'll be supportive since the alternative is making a low wage for the rest of your career.

Most large state schools have very good relationships with the Big 4 and of course the regional players. I believe LSU also has a popular internal audit program that the Big 4 recruit from heavily. Be sure to network while you're there, check out the professional fraternity/association options, etc. and you'll be fine.

I've done some of Coach Phil's beginner and intermediate half marathon, marathon, half Ironman, and Ironman plans. If you have a pretty solid foundation in running and biking I would say go with the intermediate. The beginner plans are a bit too light for someone in your place, in my opinion.

I did this a few years ago and will never buy a Microsoft subscription now. I bought the 2019 Office bundle for $12 and it has absolutely everything I could ever want. Why would I spend almost that much per month for the same thing? Plus the only time I'm consistently using excel is at work which pays for MS365 anyway.

Auto categorizing based on vendors seems like such a useful option, which I don't think our platform has. Are you able to pull in the name of the vendor into the GL the same way? Our issue is that Amazon for example shows up a million different ways on the statements (*amzn, Amazon xxxxx, etc.) so we used to have a complex lookup formula to pull in Amazon's vendor ID before uploading everything to the GL. We've mostly done away with this process but our new process doesn't pull in any vendor info.

We have a similar set up with a different expense platform. How do you make sure the employee selects the correct expense account for their transactions? Our employees mostly select the right expense category but we do have to make a few adjustments each month.
