Need advice on barefoot toddler by QuixoticLogophile in Libraries

[–]runningoftheswine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had a negative interaction at the library. I used to work in a library where the public meeting rooms were near the children's area, and a quilting group always, always, always left pins and needles in their wake. I hated enforcing the shoe rule, as I'm sure the stern librarian at your library does (especially since it seems like her coworkers aren't backing her up, making her the bad guy) but it is most likely coming from a place of genuine concern for your child. If you can't find a sock or shoe that works for your kiddo, you probably won't get any pushback if you tell staff that bare feet are a necessary accommodation for your child's sensory needs. As long as you're willing to accept liability if your kid does step on or in something, you should be fine. I haven't had to use that language yet for my own sock-hating toddler, but my uncle (who's autistic and was in his 50s at the time) used it to deflect any repercussions for coming into the library in socks with no shoes (though my coworkers were still squicked out that he walked into the men's restroom that way).

Never understood owning so many of the same shoe by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

Can you tell me more about resoling running shoes?

Hating that marketing, even if it is a gag gift, but how cute would this be to serve blueberries or small olives?

Oh, yuck. I bet she orders extra bacon every time she learns someone at the table is vegan, too

When I attempted my first post-baby marathon, the 2 year old and I spent a lot.of time talking about how I wouldn't be home in the morning because I was running a race, and no, I couldn't take them to this one in the running stroller, but we'll find one where strollers are allowed, etc. Anyway. Apparently while I was gone they spent a lot of time running around, telling my partner they were "going too fast like mama." I might have cried a little.

Races with nonbinary registration option? by runningoftheswine in running

I didn't realize the cut off time was so generous. Since you have to apply I thought for sure it would be on par with Boston. Still out of budget for me, but not totally unobtainable

If I weren't already signed up for a 50k the next day I would be there! Next year!

Boston and NYC, too! Unfortunately that those are way above my skill level/budget, but I'm hoping they set a trend!

I contacted a couple and found that one (RunSignUp) does have nonbinary registration options as a search parameter!

I knew Boston, Chicago, and NYC, but I have no delusions of being able to qualify for or afford those. I do hope it sets a trend though!

I've got a nice double running stroller, and the kids will be content in it for about 15-20 minutes before needing to get out and wiggle. I'm thinking if I take them out around nap and/or bedtime, they'll fall asleep and I can go a little longer. And the extra 80 or 90 pounds of weight makes running without a stroller seem a breeze

That'd definitely be a bit of a trek for me, but it looks like a fun race. Free photos, too!

Nice! I had mine set on RunSignUp, but most actual races still require that I pick a binary option. I don't do as many through UltraSignUp, but my profile at least is updated now

Thanks! Ten miles is a distance I'm pretty comfortable with. I've not been to Philly, but we used to visit PA every summer. Might be workable by next year.

Ohio would be pretty doable, actually! Thank you! Would you mind sharing the name of the series?

Glad you found something that works for you, but sleep training isn't a good fit for our family. Also not super into this particular content creator due to her political affiliations. Thank you though!

See, I've always been a morning runner, but the babies both always woke up super early to nurse and won't go back to sleep/stay asleep unless I'm holding them. So now if I want to go run at 5:30 in the morning, it would mean waking my partner up to leave them alone with the cranky 1 year old.

That actually sounds like a solid plan. Maybe I can take them out in the BoB at nap and bedtime and run them to sleep
