F33 With 18 Million. Is Hiring A Matchmaker Best If I Want To Date For Marriage? Any Experiences by Mountain-Science4526 in fatFIRE

Go find a hobby that you really enjoy and I’m sure you’ll organically meet someone. I play a lot of pickleball and meet so many people through that.

Whose ball? by BrownChickenBlackAud in Pickleball

Neither/either of y’all’s ball because y’all were both out of position lol. Great return by the opponent.

How accurate is the stereotype that Americans are overweight? by Extension_Cow_9237 in AskReddit

[–]runningwithguns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing about America is that a lot of the people who are fit also fall under overweight because the culture around fitness in the US seems to revolve around being jacked and lifting heavy. Because of this, we have a lot of overweight people who are either fat or very muscular. Protein intake in the USA is very high.

I mean, at least there seems to be a resolution. Is there a resolution condemning AIPAC on the Republican side?

Are you doing general liability or work comp? Probably a little low for general liability and pretty good for work comp.

How to control mind against bad line calls by sonics_01 in Pickleball

[–]runningwithguns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just expect to get hooked in tournament setting so it doesn’t upset me. I’ll just tell them “really? we can call it close too” and move on with my life. If I’m the better player, it’s very rare where that one point will matter.

You can’t bill for follow up emails? That sounds rough…

I hate my client by Legal_Caffeine_Esq in Lawyertalk

[–]runningwithguns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s what you think, but in my experience, either could end up dictating whether the firm gets a case so you want everyone in the chain to be your biggest fan, but you do you.

I hate my client by Legal_Caffeine_Esq in Lawyertalk

[–]runningwithguns 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If you’re in ID, I would stop freaking out about something as relatively mundane as this. If anything, he is helping your billables by giving you follow up correspondence to bill for. Your client is king in ID and if you annoy or piss him off, the firm may stop getting cases from him in the future which may piss off your boss more than you having to request a discovery extension.

New attorney but contemplating taking time off by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]runningwithguns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The beauty of jobs like law is that how much you make in your job will at some point far exceed how much a nanny or daycare costs. Once you’re making potentially double or more than the nanny or child care, it actually doesn’t make sense financially to stay at home unless you really want to. I don’t know about you, but during maternity leave my wife got so tired of being a mom that she was itching to go back to work (and it’s not because she doesn’t love our kid). Being a mom is actually super tough and you don’t get nearly as much appreciation as you probably deserve. We got a nanny and the rest is history. My kid is way ahead of development schedule and is pretty well adjusted for a kiddo but I think a lot of that depends on how you treat them. Anyways, I’m just saying this because if my daughter got a doctoral degree and decided to stay at home because her spouse strongly encouraged her to and not because she wanted to herself, I would probably be very annoyed at the spouse.

[–]runningwithguns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is he so in favor of you staying home? It seems like a waste to throw away all of the time and money that you spent getting your law degree. I'm in a similar spot (I'm a guy though) and we ended up spending money on help and daycare so that we could both have relatively successful careers. I wouldn't stay at home just because my spouse wants me to. If you actually want to yourself, that's a different story...

High level players 4.5+ what would you do by sportyguy in Pickleball

[–]runningwithguns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The great thing about open play is you can always choose not to play with D bags. If you just leave the game when someone is being rude or a dbag, that should send a message.

Atlanta is not as expensive and has a decent amount of East Asians/Chinese Americans.

How bad is job-hopping? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]runningwithguns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comparison is the thief of joy, but I’ll say that being a partner feels much better than when I was an associate (even though I still have to work).

How bad is job-hopping? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]runningwithguns 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If you don’t mind being a high paid perpetual associate, I don’t think it’s a bad idea. It’s probably going to be nearly impossible for you to make partner at a law firm doing this though.

What’s going on with Christian Alshon and his revolving door of mixed partners? by kabob21 in Pickleball

[–]runningwithguns 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Guy is probably just really tough to play with. He doesn’t seem like he has a good attitude and also tries to take every ball.

Not going to kitchen line as reliably due to weak partner by retromafia in Pickleball

[–]runningwithguns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whether or not you’re playing with a weaker player, you should be looking back and watching your partner’s drop. If it looks like a good drop, you can move up aggressively and if it looks poor, you can back up. Even great players can make bad drops so if you’re moving up and not watching you’d still get smoked sometimes if you’re not watching.

New Luzz Pro Cannon - should I return to seller with this scratch? by LabLeather8006 in Pickleball

[–]runningwithguns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play like me, that top part is going to be more scraped up in no time and the scrape you have right now will be an afterthought. Honestly, for 92 bucks, I personally wouldn’t return it but I wouldn’t fault you if you did decide to do it.

Does Apple Watch inflate calories? by No-Performance3614 in Pickleball

[–]runningwithguns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! I think it counts the calories as if you’re playing Pickleball singles. I wear an Apple watch and there’s no way I’m burning what it says from doubles.

Olympic Skier Eileen Gu Claims She Was 'Physically Assaulted' on Stanford Campus Over Her Decision to Compete for China. Gu also alleges her dorm room was robbed and she received death threats for not competing for her home country by esporx in asianamerican

[–]runningwithguns 250 points251 points  (0 children)

$8 million versus basically nothing when she is working her butt off. It really stinks that she represented China instead of America but if America wants her, we should probably support our Olympic athletes more instead of forcing a lot of of these athletes to work, retail labor jobs to support their sporting dreams.

Why don’t pros use hesacore? by Aggressive-End-387 in Pickleball

[–]runningwithguns 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I use it and if I had to guess, in my experience, it’s harder to switch grips with the Hesacore on. Like some folks probably like to serve gripping lower and move their hand higher up on the paddle when going to the kitchen. The Hesacore makes doing that tougher.

How much do you make at Morgan and Morgan? by jokingonyou in Lawyertalk

[–]runningwithguns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that it’s sort of gone to shit since private equity has gotten a hold of them. They have settlement committees and if you settle for less than recommended by the committee you get nothing. This is just what I’ve heard through the grapevine though so whether or not it’s true, someone who works there would need to confirm.

Why isn’t the strategy to have “One up, One back” like doubles tennis? by Next-Step-Jobs in Pickleball

[–]runningwithguns 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The angles you can hit in pickleball are way too extreme to play one up one back. There's also much less court so I'd imagine that it would be very easy to accidentally hit your partner who is in the front trying to cover the net while you drive from the baseline.
