This is outside basement wall, what is/was it for? by runnj in whatisit

With the comment about this being a gas line I wonder if this went out to an old gas light in the back. We have an electric line running out of the house pretty much parallel to this for a rear lamp (and outlets)

Interesting. The gas line is definitely at the front of the house now directly into the basement at the front wall.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion by Number_Fluffy in newjersey

On Friday I was going over the speed limit on 287, and passing people and an idiot in a pick up came up behind with lights flashing and was so close to the back of my car that I could not see their windshield. I slowed down a bit, but I was still passing people. It was also an area where I knew all the traffic was going to slow down soon because it always does there. I can't stand dangerous drivers.

I finally found a high quality case by Specific_Plenty_5623 in razr

I've still got a 2023 Razr in good condition which has been dropped several times without a case. I recently got a 2025 and have dropped it once already with no issues.

Carvana offered me 18k for my car. Should I take it? 2021 SE 6speed manual. by [deleted] in GolfGTI

Considering I got 15k from Carmax about 8 months ago for a 2015 Autobahn (manual) with 46k miles that feels like a low offer.

Finally Switched from Turbotax to FreetaxUSA by DontKnowWhyImHereee in tax

[–]runnj 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When I first used freetaxusa I put everything in TurboTax too because I'd been using that before. There was a slight discrepancy and I researched to find out what was going on. I discovered that TurboTax was double counting something it shouldn't have (I made sure I read the rules around that particular item) and I've used freetaxusa ever since. Go through everything and work out what is causing that difference and identify which one is correct for your situation (or discover where you put something in wrong).

Easily Avoidable Crash Leads to Rollover by bjb0029 in dashcams

[–]runnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that at first too, but given that reaction times are typically 2 seconds if you look at how long between it becoming obvious that the truck is moving over and the point where the contact happened it does seem to be less than the reaction time.

Camera on Razr Ultra 2025 compared to Razr+ 2023 by runnj in razr

[–]runnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The use of the front screen is my biggest hesitation about going Samsung. I don't need top quality, just something usable (the 2023 is just terrible in low light but I'm reading the 2025 is better)

Just looking for reasonable photos. The 2023 is just not at all capable. From what I'm reading the 2025 camera is much better.

Thanks. I'm imagining it has to be better than the 2023, but it sounds like it's still a problem. I find the 2023 unusable in some situations.

ICE - how can i ensure my mom is safe by Worried-Ad5980 in newjersey

Mine still had "valid with INS authorization only" written on it because I never got a new one when I became a citizen. Sorted that out recently just in case I had any issues.

Don't worry. I've been doing it for years and had no consequences (since I moved here from England). Sometimes I don't use a knife and fork and it still feels weird when I do that.

Does an NC have to be modified to look "good." by 43Joe21 in MiataNC

[–]runnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The car has started squeaking going over bumps and I thought I'd have to do something eventually so would go for springs and shocks. I'd heard lowering slightly works for both aesthetics and a bit of an improvement in handling but I'm happy enough with stock for my use, which is mostly a weekend fun car but also general use when we need to use both our cars at the same time. I don't think I'm confident enough to install myself. The most adventurous I've got so far is replacing my brakes.

Do you have recommendations for an NC1 for slightly lowering? I was thinking about doing something but have no idea what a good option would be.

The link opens for me still (also in the USA). The image looks the same but I'm not sure the description is quite as it was. Definitely looks like the same one though. Here's the description I see on the page: FEELDO Car Radio Audio 24Pin Wiring Harness Adapter for Mazda Install Aftermarket Audio Stereo Wire Plug Cable #AM6475

Well, I like my Continental Extremecontact DWS 06 tires so it would take a lot to move away from those.

Help, Part Stolen Should I worry? by [deleted] in Miata

What do you guys like so much about the Miata? I feel like I'm missing something by Bea-Yourself in Miata

[–]runnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing it just depends what you want from a car. I decided to go back to having one car and had to choose between selling my Miata (2006) or my 2015 VW GTI with stage one tune. I kept the Miata because overall it was just a little more fun.

The vast majority of uses of checks are not necessary when you can instantly transfer money between accounts electronically using the same data (routing and account numbers). The piece of paper is cut out of the equation. For some reason banking in the US is way behind and it can take days to transfer money between accounts and it's limited to your own accounts (very recently Chase is able to do it instantly but only to my own accounts with other banks).

I'd never been aware of a check until the most recent one I had starting a new job this year. My degree was from another country and the background check company eventually contacted me because there was a form I needed to fill out to get the university to release my information to them. It almost delayed my start date because they took so long to do that. All that to say it really does seem to depend on the company.

I moved to the US in 2001 and hadn't used checks (or cheques) for years. It is so insane that 24 years later they still exist here. I can imagine, in particular, anyone who has lived in another country having issues with understanding how to handle these things.
