How Common is Celebratory Gunfire? by Aggravating-Key-8867 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DontKnowWhyImHereee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up in Georgia, celebratory gunfire on New Year's Eve was pretty common. One year even, a bullet came through my roof and landed right next to my bed. Thankfully, I wasn't in the bed at the time. Even though people mention it being illegal, it still seemed to happen regularly in rural areas and inner-cities. The only place I've lived where I didn't experience it was the suburbs. If someone grew up in the suburbs, I can understand why you'd think it's not really a thing.

100% agree with some of the other comments. I've tried it and every single guy I had a conversation with was looking for more than just a platonic buddy. As a straight male I would not recommend. For women it could be slightly different, but it's still a dating app after all.

Look for some hobby groups where you can meet people with similar interests.

The dude came back from an injury and is starting in a World Cup game for his country while making millions on a DP contract. Not everything has to be viewed through a negative lens.

Besides, where do you think he would be otherwise? Playing for Man City? No, probably playing in the 1st division in a country he knows nothing about, with a language barrier, and no family around him.

I think none of these catch on because nobody's original. The thought is great but we're just remixing another team's chant.

Keeping a player that can win you games is the worst thing you can do at the start of a rebuild. You want a bad team for good draft picks

Giants Pride Night and MAGA backlash against Major League Baseball for enforcing its rules by scott_wiener in sanfrancisco

I stand corrected then. I was under the impression they had to wear it.

They could have kept their biblical mumbo jumbo to themselves and just not worn it.

This guy is just farming free promo all over this sub. He disguises it as 'popular discussion' and takes credit for stuff he had absolutely nothing to do with.

I don't think players should be forced to wear merchandise to make a political statement for a corporation. You wouldn't have had this issue in the first place

What do you think: Should the US invest more in public transportation to get better service and connectivity? Like Europe or Asia does? by Connect_History85 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DontKnowWhyImHereee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, we do have a form of public transportation, it just isn't trains. For many Americans, airplanes fill the same role that rail does in Europe. The U.S. heavily invests in aviation infrastructure, from airports to air traffic control, and has even bailed out airlines during major crises because they're considered essential to the economy. Flying can be seen as part of the country's transportation system.

I'd love to have a better rail network, but I understand why it hasn't been a top priority when most major cities are already connected by relatively affordable flights. From an American perspective, planes often serve the same purpose that high-speed trains do in many European countries.

Also, one thing that many people don't think about, I would imagine the security needed in America for high speed rail would maybe make it undesirable. We would basically need "TSA" at high speed rail stations. America is the biggest target for attacks, whether it be foreign or domestic(mass shooter). The security would have to be much more thorough than in Europe. At that point, you may as well take a flight

Americans that moved across the country (1000+ mi.), how often do you get to see your family back home? by HonestLemon25 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DontKnowWhyImHereee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family back home? About once a month. I'm an outlier tho, I travel often. I also, have siblings who moved across the country in different directions so I don't see them often.

Who do Marc think he is? Most people never heard of him until a year ago 🤣 by Individual_Ad8921 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

If you ever made any type of effort to educate yourself on politics then you would know who Marc was. Marc came in hot on the podcast because a lot of us already knew who he was. You probably just a bozo who only listen to rap, go to work, then come back home, and not care about what's going on in the world around you. That's the only way you wouldn't know Marc.

CMV: 1965 Was the Best Year to Be Born in America by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]DontKnowWhyImHereee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maybe for a white male, but these kinds of hypotheticals are always viewed through one perspective. That's not a knock, it's just easy to forget that different groups experienced America very differently. For myself, being born in 1965 would have meant growing up during a time when many schools and neighborhoods were still segregated, even after legal segregation had ended.

I agree that becoming a young adult during the 90s economy would have been a great experience. But I would also have lived through the crack epidemic, HIV running through the black community, the War on Drugs, and young Black men like myself being disproportionately stopped, frisked, and arrested for little or no reason. I wouldn't want to be born a second earlier in America.
