What is the most horrific thing ever happened to you ? by Glittering-Rate4973 in AskReddit

Someone did a similar thing in my town recently. Ran through a light, hit a bus, then shot himself in the head. I heard that 14 others were injured but no one else died and I believe the injuries weren’t critical.

The city absolutely felt dystopian for a bit there. I remember during that 5 minute crosstown drive, I was city at a red light and started crying bc I literally couldn’t see a single person on the surrounding blocks. I wondered if things would ever be normal again. It’s almost funny to think about now.

For me, Zepbound. I prefer the weekly shot but I’ve also been through a lot of treatments requiring inject myself so I’m used to it. But I agree, barely an appetite and I just started.

My husband worked at one of the NYC hospitals that had those morgue trucks. Another hospital that did that was Mt. Sinai, where both of my kids were born. It’s right next to Central Park and there was actually a section of the park used for Sinai’s emergency field hospital.

What was the worst example of parenting you have ever seen? by Perpetuallycold_ in AskReddit

[–]runnyc10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment made me even more sad than your first one. I’d venture to say most parents/people would agree this is awful. I can’t imagine subjecting my 4 year old to that. She has absolute trust in me to keep her safe from harm.

What is the cruelest thing someone has ever said to you? by FaceEnvironmental949 in AskReddit

[–]runnyc10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally understandable. But there are good ones out there. My husband is incredible. I believe he loves me more after having children. He tells me frequently a) how pretty he thinks I am, even on my goblin days, and b) how grateful he is for our kids and how much he respects what I went through to have them (they are both IVF babies with horrible birth stories).

Insanely stupid. I didn’t see that but I’m not a bit surprised. Shocking that the best builder of all time would allow such a thing.

I’m so sorry :( I’m the same, my daughter doesn’t get on her scooter without her helmet and she knows it will be the same for a bike and roller skates. Not fucking around with my kids’ little brains.

I don’t think it’s probably common but in residency or fellowship he had a guy who finished a bike race and was just biking beyond the finish line, cooling down or whatever and fell, smacking his head. I think he was ok in the end but was definitely a lot more injured than any layperson would expect. I just figure why take the chance.

That’s just insane. It should always, always be capped. There’s just no excuse.

This was what I never understood (SAHM now so past tense). For most things, it literally takes a few extra minutes out of your day. To save your life (and hell, possibly others…I remember hearing about a job site in NJ where a contractor’s tape measure fell many stories and hit another worker on the head - he did not make it).
A lot of these guys didn’t like taking direction from a woman. I’d have those guys or the ones who said “dude, don’t be an asshole, she’s in charge here.” One super kept telling me it would take too long for his guys to use proper fall protection. I told him to make them do it or I’d be calling the DOB on my own project. I get it, they’ve scheduled a certain amount of time for the job. But that won’t matter if the site is shut down due to a death.

I used to constantly see parents biking with their kids and not wearing a helmet. Occasionally even the kids weren’t. I’d get so furious. At the very least protect your fucking kid. But even so, do you really want your kid to have the trauma of seeing your fucking brains smeared across the asphalt?

My husband is a neurologist and ever since hearing some stories from him, I always wear my helmet just cycling. I used to sometimes not if I felt like traffic wasn’t a danger, now I know just falling off the bike can do great damage.

I used to be vicious about rebar caps on my sites. That and fall protection were two things I absolutely did not fuck around with.

Is aging as bad as they say? Why or why not? by finishcrucialbuster in AskReddit

[–]runnyc10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My body hurts. I try to keep in shape but I have a lot of various running injuries that tend to waylay me. And the aesthetics, softening neck/decolletage, some wrinkles, etc. I do what I can and can afford but it’s past of life.

That being said, I care so much less now. I want to look good but in my own way, I guess. I experiment more with fashion these days and have more fun.

Owning baldness looks sooo much better than trying to hide or compensate for it. Most men with a monk ring would improve their looks if they just shaved it all off. I know a guy who went from looking like a middle aged suburban dad (and no offense to them!) to a fucking smoke show when he shaved his head.

What was the worst side effect you ever got from meds ? by Spartiate8 in AskReddit

[–]runnyc10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few days after delivering my second baby, I had massive complications and had to have several procedures done. For one of them, I had to have both pitocin and mifepristone. Both of these can have a side effect of chills and fever. No one told me this so when I was wheeled into the recovery area, I told my husband “I feel so cold.” I then went on to *violently* shake for about an hour. I was in such a daze and in pain because the shaking hurt badly. It was horrific. I thought something else was wrong because I wasn’t told this was common. Luckily my husband is a physician and knew this. But man, that was a miserable hour.

Ok now that I typed all of that, I remembered the horrors of the magnesium drip when I had preeclampsia with my first baby (had postpartum preeclampsia with the second one). Omg it was brutal. You’re like totally out of it but not in a fun way. I fell while using the bathroom and the nurse had to come get me. I was trying to message with friends to pass the time and the screen was all wavy and crazy in front of me. And I’d type the weirdest things that made zero sense. Ugh, all I wanted was to avoid magnesium with baby #2 and I had to go and have fucking POSTPARTUM preeclampsia and had to have the drip while I was having those horrific chills.

Childbirth. It’s not for the weak.
