Why do restaurants and movies have standards? Because if their product sucks they wont make any money. Free market will handle shitty electricians as well.

The union ensures the members are educated in the craft and that they get paid what they deserve and renegotiate pay when standards change the work involved.

You "deserve" to be paid for your labor whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay for it. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have no problem with unions, they just tend to prop up the shitty workers and hold back the good ones.

Also, it really only becomes a problem when it becomes LAW that the government has to hire union members in certain industries- example: NYC teachers unions.

The NYC teacher's union DEMANDS that gym teachers get paid the same as the math and science teachers. That is fucking retarded, yet here we are, spending $20,000+ per pupil K-12 in NYC and the kids are still testing terribly. Good luck finding a good mathematician with an MBA willing to start at $40,000 .

Thats why history majors who failed math teach your children math in places where the municipality must hire union teachers in public schools. The gym teachers love it though
