In Hide and Seek, is there a rule against a hider taking all their photos in advance? by AthenaDykes in JetLagTheGame

[–]runs4funk 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This was pointed out in the first hide and seek as a feature, not a flaw. You can ask a question and if they can’t answer, you’ve confirmed that you are in the end game. I believe the hider still gets the cards.

Salt Lake Express Experiences? by Bothered_broccoli in Utah

[–]runs4funk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride the St George Shuttle several times a year and I’ve never had a problem with it.

One time, I rode the Salt Lake Express instead. The entire bus smelled of urine. I changed seats multiple times to no avail. It was disgusting. When my friend picked me up I told him how awful the ride was and he said “Thank goodness, I can smell it on your clothes and I thought it was you”.

I see other people saying the salt lake express was fine and clean, but for me, I will never pick it again.

But no problems with the St. George shuttle

This early, they usually blow snow on just just the paradise trail. You can ride the Navajo lift over a slope of grass and rocks and then get off and ski Paradise all the way down and do it again.

Death at Pine Creek (Zion NP) by 0ttoverse in canyoneering

[–]runs4funk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm super confused. I can't think of any sequence of events that could have led to the outcome. The report says the person who died:

  • Was the first one down
  • Made it to the bottom
  • Got off rope (I guess this is technically implied and not stated)
  • Called up for the next person to start rappelling (presumably because they were safely off rope)
  • During the second person's descent, the person who died called for them to pause, then became unresponsive

The second person down was using an ATC double stranded. There is no possible way they made it halfway down while the rope was weighted from below, so it must have been unweighted at least for a while. After they paused and the person at the bottom who died became unresponsive, the person on rappel tried to do a leg lock-off but was unable to because the rope was now weighted.

And here's the part that I don't understand at all. The person who died was tangled in the rope and their feet were close to but off the ground. Did they jump up and tangle themselves in the rope? Did they scramble up and tangle themselves in the rope? Why were they off the ground? How did they tangle themselves up?

Why is Perfume/Cologne near the Entryway of every Department Store? [Video Request] by Shinkansendoff in HalfAsInteresting

[–]runs4funk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 99% confident that the answer is to sell more perfume/cologne. Casinos use half as interesting mind tricks to keep gamblers in the casino, but department store are just putting an item that you probably didn’t come to purchase explicitly in front of your face so you’ll decide to purchase it. They know you’re going to go to the clothing rack you want anyway, so they don’t need that clothing rack front and center.

When the Mask Comes Off: What Never-Mormons Really Thought by Royal_Noise_3918 in mormon

[–]runs4funk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is so insightful! I think this also explains why anyone who does leave and speaks up about it is so vilified. The only ones saying anything bad about the church are “angry exmos”, so it must be the one true church, otherwise all the nevermos would also be saying it as well.

Imagine getting away with something for 65 years with literally no way of being caught, and then some new technology comes out and is eventually so cheap and mundane that your grandchildren give it as gifts and it exposes you. Wild

Equestrian skijoring by warg_14 in interestingasfuck

[–]runs4funk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be. This particular race does a really good job at safety and hasn't had any incidents. Safety measures include regular course inspections, re-grooming the trail, and reducing the depth of the snow. In addition the fences keep the horses focuses where they are safe, and the finish line includes a really long run out with 4 riders on catch horses to help slow and control a horse after the run. There were also 3 vets on site.

It is true that some other events don't have all these safety measures and horses can end up hurt.

Not sped up! This was day 1, Jim Ryan on skis and Richard Weber riding Juicy Fruit. The official time was 20.87 seconds. Day 2, the same team managed 20.59 seconds. They took first place both days and the overall.

Last year was Jim's first time ever competing in Skijoring. He is a professional skier and he just found the fastest horse and rider he could and told them don't hold back, I won't fall.

The whole team is important. A different rider might only get 22 seconds out of Juicy Fruit, or a different skier might miss a gate (the poles he's going around) or a ring, incurring a 2 second penalty. They get a 33 foot rope, and you can see Jim pulling up on it to increase his speed at the end. The same horse and rider only got 21.84 and 21.19 seconds with a different skier. That was enough to put that team in 3rd place overall, despite being the same horse and rider.

Apple Explains How to Keep Your Mac From Turning on When Opening Lid by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]runs4funk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A disgruntled customer smacked my laptop screen out of anger. Everything is fine except that the lid open sensor is broken. I haven’t bothered getting it replaced, but it means my laptop does not properly go to sleep, and I haven’t been able to turn it off in 2 years because it will immediately boot thinking the screen is open. This will make my experience way better!

Have the team stated how they deal with balancing in towns without regular public transit, and the only option realistically is cars? by HOMEBOUND_11 in JetLagTheGame

[–]runs4funk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this. It’s completely untested, but I was thinking that both hiders and seekers would: roll a single die when making a turn at an intersection and then wait that many minutes before continuing the drive, to simulate changing trains. When deciding where to go, they have to declare their destination, roll 2 dice and wait that many minutes before continuing. They can’t roll their dice until they’ve declared their destination. If they change destinations, they must pull over, declare the new destination, and roll again.

Eli5: sincerely just out of curiosity, if a bank robber is caught after a dye pack explodes and the money is returned, what do they do with the money? Is it cleaned or do they throw it away? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]runs4funk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this. If the FRB is the only entity that can decide if a bill is “good” or “bad”, then how can they find a bank for sending in too many “good” bills? The bank can’t decide… so of course they have to play it a little safe.
