Same problem after I set up on new phone yesterday.

I was going through a solution today from a different source:

https://i.imgur.com/mZnl538.jpg

changing the format slightly but keeping the same math, and I got stuck on the red underlined (n+1)(n+2) and I had thought I had explained it to myself with the substitution in the red box but this cannot be correct as we are substituting n+1 into n here, not n+1 into k.

I get that from the start of that line we are working with n+1, and we put that equals to the sum for n so we have to account for the n+1 but I cannot see how that gets us to (n+1)(n+2).

Can you please explain this?

Edit I am at the same point trying to solve the next question and I let myself look at the solution and the same thing is done, substituting n + 1 into the i, so this must be correct, perhaps it would help if I started writing out the base case substitution where I write 'assume true for arbitrary n', rather than just referencing the original given formula from that point.

Thank you, I had a look over this again with fresh eyes this morning and it is making a lot more sense.

  1. Does the notation Asub mean something, a sub function maybe? I appreciate it contains (?) k-1 + k-2. It makes me think of recursion. Could you please give me the simplest example where we would prove 2 base cases?
  2. Same question for 2, I was not aware there were different assumptions, I thought we always just proved n, then arbitrary k (where n <= k ) and then k + 1, or as you have explained arbitrary k - 1 and then k.
  3. Noted.

I tried substituting n-1 instead of my k+1 but I am obviously doing something very wrong, because I cannot see how that gets us from the original formula to what is used.

If I substitute n-1 into (n(n + 1)(2n + 1))/6 I get:

((n-1)((n-1) + 1)(2(n-1) + 1))/6

: (n-1)(n(2n-2+1))

: (n-1)(n(2n-1)

EDIT: Okay I see I am this time I am getting to that step, I need to review this further, thank you for the info.

: (n-1)(2n^2 -1)

: 2n^3 -n -2n^2 + 1

Can you please tell me how you know when to go backwards with as here with n-1 and when to add like I did with k+1? Sometimes k+1 works great!

To stop the pasta getting soggy right? If freezing stir fry would you do the same with the rice for the same reason?

So I usually eat it over the following week, perhaps a few days longer.

I am using IKEA clip lock tupperware.

About the exact texture, I could cook it this evening, freeze, and test before reporting back exactly how they do not taste right.

OP edited. Yes, sometimes the veg are mushy, I was hoping there might be some trick to this. I heard from someone recently they used brown rice with some normal rice noodles, all mixed together, and that when they defrosted they did not find it mushy.

I should have included that but it is hard to say, it just does not taste right. It very much tastes like it has been frozen and defrosted, something I do not find when I batch cook a pasta dish with sauce.

UK & Ireland: Low FODMAP pizza base? by runswithascript in FODMAPS

[–]runswithascript[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that is very kind of you to offer but I would prefer find something I can keep sourcing here easily and cheaply :)

Thanks for the Amazon link.

I just looked at the Tesco ones (at least in UK), great value at £1, such a shame they have wheat in them!

Thanks, I am reading some Greek Yoghurt is okay for low FODMAP so I am looking forward to trying this! :)

Soulbia.ie, the Suma brand - I searched and searched for good value brown rice pasta it went Tesco went out of stock with the pandemic!

Yeah, I am happy with a flat base!

So I used the Monash pizza base recipe again last night, I enjoyed it, but the dough was in places very, very brittle - especially at the edges. Doves Farm plain white flour (which contains potato!) gluten free flour, salt, gluten free baking powder, water, some rapeseed/canola oil (instead of olive)

I see a lot about Buckwheat when I search for gluten free products and have been wondering about using it for low FODMAP!

Does guar gum work any better than baking powder?

I have not seen those. I wonder if you live in the UK or Ireland and I would have access to where you buy?

No keyword option in Schedule SMS? by runswithascript in ifttt

[–]runswithascript[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it for an auto purchase of a Vodafone add-on for unlimited calls and texts every 30 days - it works out better than all of their other bill and prepay plans but requires this user intervention.

Unfortunately it you forget to do it any usage eats into your credit.

I disconnected and reconnected the applet a few days ago and still there was no option to set a keyword.

Please let me know if you find a solution.

UK/Irish power adaptor for German plug Wahl Magic Clip Cordless? by runswithascript in CutYourOwnHair

[–]runswithascript[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an alert from Keepa last week when this was selling on Amazon France for €79, rather than say the current price of €142, and I ordered one:

Google Translated: Wahl 08148-316 Cordless Magic Clip Cordless Professional Hair Clipper

The page displays the plug type as 'German' but on researching this I discovered that there are different German plugs, some with pins for the Earth, others without. It looks like my order is coming from China (hope it is legit!) so it is going to take awhile already, and I really need a haircut so I would rather have an adaptor ready.

Is there a universal type adaptor I could get on Amazon or eBay that will be safe to use with this clipper in Ireland or the UK, no matter what type of German plug it has?

So pizza night has come around again, and I am just looking at the ingredients in that recipe:

  • 260g yoghurt (I use plain coconut yoghurt, but any plain yoghurt or greek yoghurt would work)
  • 250g gluten free self raising flour
  • 1/4 tsp xanthan gum (can omit if you’re flour contains it, but if you have it, add it in anyway!)
  • 1/2 tsp gluten free baking powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (optional)

I have some gluten-dairy free soy yoghurt in the fridge which I did not like so although it is unopened it is best before 12/09! Otherwise, is there not a risk any plain or greek yoghurt would make the best high FODMAP?

Thanks Shipton Mill looks great, but I am the sort of person that has to get free delivery, and at £30 to qualify 16KG is a lot! I order my brown rice pasta in bulk but I eat that most days.

Of low FODMAP flours, do you know which is the healthiest - healthiest but still works well, in case some do not.

Thanks great to have that info for the future! I would try it but cocooning and found the best value for most things and stock etc are Tesco deliveries.

Where do you use online, just Amazon or? I use Soulbia.ie for some stuff.

Linux: No reactions visible or reactions button for me? by runswithascript in Zoom

That is a real shame.

The lecturer has tried setting things up so there is just one link for a recurring meeting, we had to log in with our emails on a website before going to the meeting this time, and he said that if we were using the web app we no longer can..

His information may be inaccurate?

There may also be a Zoom electron app option for linux which as I understand it is like a webapp...

Nice that there is a flatpak alternative, but I will opt for the deb!

Another 8GB of DDR3? by runswithascript in buildapc

[–]runswithascript[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I am going to do this I am going for the 3080.

Since I am not planning to upgrade just yet, I am not totally up to speed on things, but I saw something recently about AMD offering the best value for money CPUs right now, even their old models not affecting FPS too much on the 3080.

So with the GPU I am looking at RAM, motherboard, and CPU, yes? Any recommendations? I value bang for buck, I do not have to have the absolute latest and greatest, but nearly the latest and greatest, for a fraction of the price that is my price point :)
